Mars in the 12th House
Francis Sakoyan. Planets in Houses
Actions and desires are influenced by the subconscious. There is a preference for solitude in work and other matters. A desire to act in secrecy, to avoid open confrontation. A tendency to conceal one’s desires and views, secret sexual encounters. Work in large institutions where one can hide or completely lose their identity. Very often, it is difficult for you to assert yourself, be direct, express your will, and achieve what you want. Although you may possess considerable energy and strength, you lack confidence or simply the desire to put yourself and your interests first. You are probably very selfless, working more for the benefit of others than for your own sake. You too often deny your own desires and needs and may secretly become very angry, which ultimately undermines your most beautiful aspirations.

The person is an active fighter against all frustrations and limitations imposed by collective karma. They confront societal challenges, express collective dissatisfaction, or incite rebellion. They conceal their activities, attempting to pursue their agenda unnoticed—behind-the-scenes activity. Self-analysis is enhanced through solitary combat. Enemies are always hidden, so the person cannot fight them directly. Alone, they can endure great physical strain.

Sisyphus. This person feels their loneliness as soon as they begin to express their strength and expend energy. They feel as though the world and people instantly turn away from them, and that they are doing something clearly wrong, inappropriate, or untimely. At a low level, the individual either falls into energetic depression or, by forcing their strength, still tries to do something and prove themselves to others. In fact, they attempt to break down the wall that arises between them and the world the moment they try to penetrate it through force. However, the world resists, sometimes showing aggression that precisely mirrors the person’s own aggression—something the individual usually fails to understand, cursing their ill fate instead. The secret enemy here is hidden programs of the subconscious that operate through raw energy, particularly subconscious aggression; the target of this aggression will be indicated by aspects to Mars, its dispositor, and the rulers of the 12th house. If Mars forms a stressful aspect to Neptune, strong phobias and uncontrolled outbursts of rage may occur, the causes of which should be sought in the areas indicated by Mars’ aspects. This placement of Mars presents a pronounced victim complex: either the person channels their energy entirely into higher vibrations, becoming creative and highly intelligent, fully transforming their aggression, or they begin energetically sacrificing others, disregarding their interests and feelings. In the intermediate variation, they swing between these behavioral patterns, thereby regularly becoming victims of aggression from the outer world and various individuals, while cursing themselves for weakness and compromises—whereas in reality, they need to confront their repressed yet unformed aggression, understand what it is connected to, and recognize whom it is truly directed toward. It is very important not to completely deny the lower nature within oneself, yet also not to identify with it, and to realize that if a person hates themselves, they cannot love anyone else. Working through this position of Mars involves sacrifice through hard labor, which the person will find difficult to accept, but by making the sacrifice properly, they will experience great relief. In any case, they are drawn to mysterious actions, behind-the-scenes activities, and the detective genre.

Loss of a marriage partner, tendency toward marital infidelity, dental diseases, and reckless expenditures are highly probable when Mars is placed in this sinful house. These individuals find it difficult to fulfill promises, suffer from restless sleep, and if they are women, they may experience difficulties with childbirth or pregnancy. They often feel bored and change partners or their environment in search of new experiences. Their lives include difficult periods requiring financial frugality. They may expend significant effort in service to others or in charitable activities.
Het Monster. Planets in Houses
In a night birth—less harmful than in a day birth. Weak health, physical disability. Danger from firearms, large animals. If the 12th house is Virgo, Aquarius, or Libra, wounds and mutilations will be inflicted by human hands.

Imagination. Your fantasies are characterized by a primitive persistence. Passion fills your dreams. They serve as vessels for primal images of courage, forged through the evolution of humanity. While it would be absurd to assume that aggression or battle features in every one of your fantasies, such a tendency does exist—so even positive dreams may call forth courage within your soul. Crisis, confrontation, conflict, danger, desire—these are the symbols of your imagination. The task is to recognize and connect with these images in order to act more effectively in real life. Especially important is the transition from dreams into ordinary conscious living. Diffuse intuition. You want to receive intuitive messages now, immediately. Yet you are like an athlete assigned a specific role within a team. Most of the time you remain on the sidelines, waiting to be called into the intuitive game—pacing back and forth like a substitute player who never knows in advance when they will be summoned to score the winning goal, yet aware they must be ready to play in a moment of crisis. Interestingly, if you surrender to the guidance of your intuition, you actually “blossom” in crisis situations. Attempt to control your ego, and you will lose yourself. The task is to allow yourself to go where demons must be destroyed. Withdrawal or solitude. You find it difficult to deal with anger—both your own and that of others. Open, direct expressions of such compelling emotions may bring destruction, so they tend to settle deep within the psyche. You feel them most vividly when alone. This trait may work against you in situations requiring conscious action, yet it can also serve you during crises, becoming an additional source of energy. Physical activity is mysterious, almost meditative. You work excellently in solitude, behind the scenes, but your work suffers under rigid deadlines and strict schedules. Nevertheless, you can achieve brilliant success by reviving the ruins of “plans once filled with the highest hopes.” The task is to use solitude to establish contact with the source of your energy. Connect with it, then bring it forth into your everyday life. Selfless service. Again and again, you are drawn to situations where energy surges powerfully beneath the surface. You may find yourself involved in confrontations you did not create, because you act as a lightning rod for releasing hidden, blocked, or unconscious forces. Your own desires often operate beyond conscious control. This may lead to chaotic floundering that achieves nothing—or, equally, it may signify the fulfillment of an extraordinary mission, much like a commando carrying out a secret operation. The lead dog of your team listens for the call of a higher master, rising at the precise moment to pull the team forward in the right direction; at other times, it simply lies and sleeps, unresponsive to your shouts of “Forward!” The task is to engage with these determined energies when they arise, regardless of how they manifest; allow them to express themselves, never losing sight of the ultimate goal—inner peace. “Past lives.” You did not achieve the quality of courage in previous lifetimes. Perhaps you were a man, or interacted with men, failing to complete a task begun together—and this now resurfaces in this life. Assertiveness, aggression, energy, action, and desire—all of these remain incompletely understood or integrated; old patterns must be uncovered before you can attain wholeness. Based solely on the planet’s house placement, it’s impossible to determine exactly which rhythms from the past are now active, but the sign, the house ruler, and aspects to Mars will help clarify this. The task is to contain accumulated energies, then release them in situations demanding powerful yet controlled explosive action.
Universal Interpretation. Planets in Houses
Such a person strongly desires to help the suffering and unfortunate. They often become an excellent chief physician in a hospital or a prison warden deserving gratitude and appreciation. They keep secrets well and may succeed as an investigator or auditor. There may be a strong connection with law and justice. Energy depletes quickly. If the planet is afflicted, there is a tendency to suppress intense emotional reactions. Such individuals often unconsciously oppose accepted social order and societal structures, offering significant resistance. This frequently results in depression, suicidal tendencies, and accidents. The person’s actions and aspirations are strongly influenced by the dynamics of the unconscious. In marriage and creativity, such people lean toward solitude and isolation from the world. They prefer to act secretly, seeking to avoid open opposition from their environment. They carefully conceal their motives, desires, and views, and may be prone to secret love affairs. They enjoy working in large institutions where they can blend in and successfully hide their individuality. An afflicted planet indicates a tendency toward behind-the-scenes struggles and secret conspiracies. There is great danger of ending up in prison, a hospital, or a psychiatric clinic. Such a person needs to frequently release the aggression they are tightly suppressing; otherwise, it will distort their psychological structure. There is a serious risk of slander and scandals. Enemies’ treachery allows them to exploit weaknesses in reputation and lack of prestige. There may be a deficiency in sincerity and objectivity. Troubles, including bodily harm and loss of freedom, stem from excessive impulsiveness, the covert actions of hidden enemies, and a tendency toward senseless adventures. The early years of such a person are marked by numerous difficulties, complications, and hardships. Intense and powerful emotions dominate over reason and emerge very early, causing emotional imbalance and excessive arrogance. Such a person often has to travel. Misfortune may come from subordinates or coworkers. There is great danger of false accusations and slander. Often, troubles arise from anonymous letters and secret denunciations. An afflicted planet manifests as increased irritability, hostile attitudes toward one’s family, tendencies toward robbery and theft, and the danger of losing freedom. There is a high risk of violent death or suicide. Extreme dangers include carelessness in decisions, impulsiveness, and aggressive behavior. Such a person must cultivate honesty, nobility, and fairness within themselves. This aspect is often linked with strange injuries, poor health, accidents, and physical impairments. Such a person must beware of scandals, conflicts, financial ruin, fraud, and self-deception.
B. Huber. Mars, Venus, Moon, and Neptune in the Twelve Houses
The libido planets Mars and Venus exert only superficial, fleeting influences in partnership relationships and are decisive factors only in exceptional cases. We will confirm this below when examining mutual aspects between partners. Only when the libido planets of two partners form more or less exact major aspects to each other is it entirely likely that sex is the primary connecting force. But when the libido planets of one partner aspect other planets of the other, sex does not dominate as strongly. The latter scenario is far more common. The libido planets play different roles in men’s and women’s charts. In a man’s chart, Mars symbolizes his own libido and is therefore integrated into his “I” image. Sexual life is surrounded by numerous prohibitions that make the individual highly anxious. Sometimes these prohibitions take the form of narrowly interpreted dogmas that impose a complete taboo on sexuality—a position still prevalent today in certain social circles, especially in remote rural areas. For example, exorcism still occurs and can sometimes kill the very person it is meant to help. This represents an extreme form of moral condemnation of natural drives characteristic of the 12th house. Fear of all things sexual, leading to suppression of sexual desire, can have a powerful impact already in childhood. It may drive us to seek refuge and comfort in an inner world of fantasy, where our religious concepts, mixed with repressed sexual needs, project into images, acquire their own personalities, and then pursue and frighten us. We create an imaginary world inhabited by demons and angels, sometimes imbued with such energy that they seem on the verge of becoming autonomous beings capable of possessing us. Such deeply rooted anxiety can develop when, during formative years, powerful repressive influences were present—for instance, if parents were extremely fearful that their child might violate sexual taboos and responded with severe punishment at the slightest sign of such danger. Needless to say, such parental attitudes stem from their own fear of social condemnation, that is, a threat to their own existence. Sometimes this type of manifestation of Mars or Venus in the 12th house—and even more frequently, the Moon—can be found even among members of the highest social classes, and the psychological mechanism of suppressing emotions and instincts remains naturally the same. Yet the 12th house is mutable and thus stimulates the libido planets. All mutable houses generate interest in the external world and heighten sensory perception. But in the 12th house, reaction is under prohibition, and thus it often manifests in various forms of compensatory behavior. Any personal sexual activity must be strictly private, requiring tightly closed doors. We absolutely need a partner with a similar astrological predisposition who will understand and share our position. Such a partner must respect our need to preserve privacy at all costs in every intimate situation. As a rule, with Mars or Venus in the 12th house we do not seek to assert our sexuality, unless we swing to the opposite extreme—prostitution. This possibility exists equally for men and women and carries the danger of complete loss of psychological integrity. Such individuals know well they may end in mental collapse, yet consciously or unconsciously do not shy away from this risk. With Mars or Venus in the 12th house, we seek a companion who knows how to be quiet and silent. Always ready to help others, we may choose a marriage partner who stands lower than us on the social ladder, and our greatest happiness will come if we can assist them while simultaneously fulfilling our emotional need for closeness and companionship.
