Mercury – Neptune
(Transit. Mercury → Natal Neptune)
Various sources for a child’s horoscope
Your child has vivid dreams and subtle intuition. He or she will likely be very musical, poetic, fond of dancing and photography. May be absent-minded, naive, cunning and unreliable. May try to avoid unpleasant situations through imagination, which sometimes leads to deception. Parents should keep in mind that sweet, incredible stories told by the child at age five may create in him or her the impression that it’s acceptable to keep inventing and lying unless corrected in time. Parents should teach the child to speak the truth when it comes to real events.
Het Monster. Aspects
Intuition, ability to perceive people’s thoughts and motives. Unconscious “telepathy” may lead to manipulations, but this is not always with malicious intent—more often it’s a game. Still, these real intrigues, which seem harmless, spoil everything: they provoke suspicion in others. Secrets are poorly kept. With an unfavorable horoscope, one may become a victim of deception. Sensitive and vulnerable, they easily forget their duties.
Catherine Haug. Astrological Dictionary
Opposition, square: confused thinking, frivolity and gullibility, vague ideals that interfere with objective judgment. In some cases, a person may partially overcome this confusion by trying to distinguish where truth ends and falsehood begins.
Avesalom Podvodny. Aspects
Mercury opposition: Before speaking, think: do your words distort your thoughts? The opposition to Mercury raises the issue of the relationship between the Planet’s principle and rational thinking. One should not assume that a strong Mercury in the chart grants intelligence: the latter is determined more by the overall evolutionary level. As for Mercury, intelligence depends more on its development than on aspects. At a low level of development, a dominant Mercury suppresses the planetary principle with mental stereotypes, trivializes it and ruthlessly distorts it. For example, with Mercury opposing the Moon, emphasis on Mercury leads the person to think entirely formally, strictly according to social stereotypes: to be healthy and happy, I must do morning exercises, marry at 20, have three children and work without strain, without strain, without strain, without aligning their true destiny with this scheme, completely unable to hear the genuine voice of their needs, even the most basic, except in cases where the Moon decisively claims the main emphasis in this opposition for itself, fully disconnecting Mercury, or rather subordinating it to itself—that is, allowing into the mind only those thoughts which arise when the Moon thinks, then the person thinks, then the thought itself, then obsessive thoughts about food or primitive but sweet sex, sharply lowering the evolutionary level of their behavior or leading to strong frustrations, neuroses or depression. Here, development proceeds through clarifying the role of thought in the expression of the planetary principle, which should generally be guided by it, but not controlled in every detail, and certainly not governed or replaced by crude mental schemes. On the other hand, thought can assist in developing new directions and materializing the planetary principle, and should not become its obedient servant, a truth one may repeatedly discover when untangling the unthinkable chaos arising after prolonged dominance of the planetary principle over the Mercurial. At a high level, the planetary principle gains a stable channel into the mental plane, and the person receives precisely those thoughts needed for the development of the planetary principle—this feeling of thought and speech being in tune cannot be mistaken for anything else; it brings absolute self-confidence in relevant situations (others begin to reflect on the stable and conscious, yet inexplicable and conscious, speech of a fully processed opposition). Neptune opposition: Lies are not a seasoning—they are always the main dish. At a low level, Neptune’s opposition raises the issue of external and internal lies and self-deception in the areas governed by the planet; here also arises the theme of lower meditations, i.e., vices: the variety of them governed by the planet. By emphasizing Neptune, a person may take pleasure in the lowest manifestations of the planetary principle in the external world, and self-deception may become so strong that the person does not recognize participating in anything bad, unworthy or immoral. Conversely, by emphasizing the planetary principle, the person encounters deception and misunderstanding in the outer world and will sincerely wonder what the problem is, failing to realize that inner dishonesty, self-deceptions and deceiving others lead to the formation around the person of a cloud of the lower octave of Neptune, and the world begins to deceive them. For example, with Mars opposing Neptune (at a low level this is a very dangerous aspect), a person may inwardly enjoy any external activity, especially aggression, completely failing to notice its destructive consequences for peace and other people. Then the situation slightly reverses, and aggression from the outer world turns against them, while Neptune produces a sense of complete incomprehension, hurt and injustice about what is happening to them, yet with the sweet flavor of a lower Neptunian meditation of a masochistic type. Then (oh horror!) the emphases of the opposition shift to the opposite: external reality becomes distorted, meaning the person decisively loses understanding of other people, while inner destructive Martian self-aggression arises, possibly with acute feelings of guilt and remorse, which the outer world categorically fails to understand or accept. Then the emphases shift again. Processing here is difficult, as it requires deep, intimate and essential changes in the person’s relationship to the planetary principle—they must learn to understand and love it, and to be honest with themselves and the outer world in the relevant spheres, beginning with not lying outright. For example, Neptune opposing the Ascendant (i.e., Neptune in conjunction with the Descendant) requires the person to stop lying to partners and open enemies (to which they are very prone), otherwise they will never escape the cloud of general falsehood and false positions. At a high level of development, the person gains stable, subtle and deep understanding of the planetary principle, the ability for high meditations within its spheres, which they can carefully and attentively convey to others.
Francesca Sakoyan. Aspects
Intuition, ability to perceive people’s thoughts and motives. Unconscious telepathy may lead to manipulations, but not necessarily malicious—simply a game in which the opponent loses. If they were sincere and honest, they would succeed, but instead they spoil everything with intrigues, causing suspicion in others. If other factors indicate naivety and lack of insight—they misjudge people, leading to unclear relationships, becoming victims of deception. They should try not to reveal secrets. Vulnerability prevents them from noticing environmental influences; they are easily made to forget their duties. They find it hard to control their imagination, especially regarding others.
S.V. Shestopalov. Planetary Aspects
Weak memory, absent-mindedness, forgetfulness, losses, self-absorption, subjectivity in judgments, obsessive thoughts, melodies, insomnia, tendency to self-deception, intrigues; impracticality, nervousness, anxiety, manias, whims, inclination to slander and deception; indefinite, unclear circumstances, inability to make decisions. The positive side—psychological depth, interest in psychoanalysis, great attention to psychological nuances, richness of associations, vivid imagination.
