Neptune–Chiron Opposition

Neptune opposition: Lies are not a seasoning—they are always the main dish. At a low level, the Neptune opposition raises the issue of external and internal deception and self-deception in the areas governed by the Planet; here also arises the theme of lower meditations, that is, vices—their variety ruled by the Planet. By emphasizing Neptune, a person may experience pleasure from the lowest manifestations of the Planet in the external world, with self-deception becoming so strong that the individual completely fails to recognize their participation in something bad, unworthy, or immoral. Conversely, by emphasizing the Planet’s principle, the person will encounter deception and misunderstanding in the external world, and will sincerely wonder what the problem is, failing to understand that inner dishonesty, self-deceptions, and deceiving others lead to the formation around the person of a cloud of the lower octave of Neptune, causing the world to deceive them. For example, in the case of Mars opposite Neptune (at a low level this is a very dangerous aspect), a person may inwardly enjoy any external activity, especially aggression, without noticing its destructive consequences for peace and other people. Then the situation will slightly reverse, and aggression from the external world will turn against them, with Neptune producing a sense of complete misunderstanding, hurt, and injustice about what is happening to them—yet all this accompanied by the sweet flavor of a lower Neptunian meditative state of a masochistic type. Then (horror!) the emphases of the opposition will shift to the opposite: external reality will become distorted, meaning the person will decisively lose understanding of other people, while internally there will arise destructive Martian self-aggression, possibly with acute feelings of guilt and remorse, which the external world will categorically fail to understand or accept. Then the emphases will shift again. The processing here is difficult, as it requires deep, intimate, and essential changes in the person’s relationship to the Planet’s principle—they must learn to understand and love it, and to be honest with themselves and the external world in the relevant spheres, beginning with not lying outright. For example, Neptune opposite the Ascendant (that is, Neptune in conjunction with the Descendant) requires the person to stop lying to their partners and open enemies (to which they are very prone), otherwise they will never escape the cloud of general falsehood and false positions. At a high level of processing, the person gains stable, subtle, and deep understanding of the Planet’s principle, the ability for higher meditations in its spheres, which they can then carefully and thoughtfully convey to others. Chiron opposition: By going too deeply into yourself, you risk emerging on the opposite side. The Chiron opposition presents the Planet with two primary tasks: qualitative expansion of its principle and its materialization in areas previously considered subtle, most refined, and entirely elusive. At a low level, however, Chiron brings not expansion or materialization, but chaos and dead-end development. If at this moment the emphasis in the opposition lies with the Planet, and the person identifies with its principle, Chiron manifests in the external world, creating incredible busyness, disorder, unimaginable (often highly original) obstacles and dead ends in the areas related to the Planet—whose meaning and cause the person cannot grasp due to their limited perspective on the Planet’s principle. The only way out is to radically change one’s views on the Planet’s principle and master it in a much broader form, effectively moving to the next level of working with the Planet. If the person does not do this, external circumstances will unfold such that the individual loses identification with the Planet’s principle; the latter becomes externalized and appears in the outer world, beyond previous reach (as when a pilot becomes an airport worker), and the main emphasis in the opposition shifts to Chiron, which, having established itself internally, brings a complete reversal of previously stable viewpoints, often accompanied by a sense of inner blind alley and despair. Processing proceeds through accepting and mastering the paradoxes of Chiron while it plays out in the external world, granting the Planet (and the person in its spheres of influence) extraordinary, reality-defying possibilities and talents whose compelling power will astonish everyone (including the person themselves). A well-integrated Chiron is highly material, and mastering its opposition yields an interesting variant of the talent for stable, unconventional perception and creativity in the areas related to the Planet. For example, mastering the opposition of Chiron to Pluto (which will cost the person dearly) bestows extraordinary critical abilities; it is very difficult to dismiss or repress this person’s remarks—they may be sharp, even witty, but they are so accurate, fair, and convincing. For true mastery of the opposition to Chiron, deep inner work and conscious management of subconscious programs related to the Planet’s spheres of influence are required.
