Pluto – Chiron Opposition

Pluto opposition: Good becomes entangled in the struggle against evil. Generally, Pluto’s major aspect places the planet under a karmic program of purification, often involving painful yet irreversible losses. At a low level, the opposition sets the planet’s principle against Pluto’s purifying actions; the person perceives these actions as destructive aggression directed at them (in the areas ruled by the planet) and attempts to resist. In such cases, the individual strongly emphasizes the planet, and Pluto manifests as an external fate delivering devastating blows—clearly undeserved—to the person, always striking the same point (the planet’s principle or the house it occupies). The person may complain (quietly), protest (loudly), or fight (desperately), but it is better to accept and, most importantly, understand that Pluto does not intend to destroy the planetary principle itself (during a Pluto-Moon opposition, a person may feel that fate wants to destroy them along with their family, for no apparent reason). Rather, Pluto targets the octave with which the person subconsciously finds it hardest to part. Sometimes (which the person usually fails to notice), the chart shifts the emphasis in the opposition, transferring the main focus onto Pluto, so that the individual becomes a conduit for the Absolute’s (fate’s) purifying will and begins doing to the planetary principle in the external world roughly what fate had recently done to them. Often, the manifestation of the outer planet occurs through certain people who fall under the individual’s fateful influence, though the person may remain entirely unaware of this (over time, such suspicions do tend to arise). Strong dark teachers with a Pluto opposition may long maintain emphasis on Pluto, brutally suppressing and destroying the planetary principle in their students, but usually Pluto’s blow eventually catches up with them. Processing here occurs primarily through cultivating humility and eradicating the primitive craving for absolute control over manifestations of the planetary principle in the surrounding world and the desire to reshape it in others by completely eliminating everything repulsive and unworthy (for example, a Pluto-Venus opposition may produce a desire for power over people’s minds and movements, but not the higher octave authority of the 9th house, rather, “so they cannot even speak or think what doesn’t belong to me!”). The person must understand that their planetary principle can be constructively used in outer life only after undergoing thorough Plutonic cleansing from within, which will require many external and internal sacrifices. At a high level, the individual gains the potential for the highest development of the planet’s principle and participation in major karmic programs. Chiron opposition: By going too deeply within yourself, you risk emerging on the opposite side. The Chiron opposition presents the planet with two primary tasks: qualitative expansion of its principle and its materialization in areas previously considered subtle, most refined, and entirely elusive. At a low level, however, Chiron brings not expansion or materialization, but chaos and dead-end development. If the emphasis in the opposition currently lies with the planet and the person identifies with its principle, Chiron manifests in the external world, creating incredible busyness, disorder, unimaginable (often highly original) obstacles and dead ends in areas related to the planet—situations whose meaning and cause remain unclear to the person. This forces the individual to reconsider their views on the planetary principle and master it in a much broader form, effectively advancing to the next level of planetary processing. If they fail to do so, outer circumstances unfold such that the person loses identification with the planetary principle; the latter becomes externalized and appears in the outer world beyond previous reach (for example, a pilot becomes an airport worker). The main emphasis in the opposition then shifts to Chiron, which, having established itself internally, solidifies the person’s rigid viewpoints and often brings a sense of inner stagnation accompanied by despair. Processing here proceeds through accepting and mastering the planetary principle’s integration with Chiron’s paradoxes while Chiron plays out in the external world, granting the planet (and the person in its spheres of influence) extraordinary, reality-defying abilities and talents whose compelling power astonishes everyone (including the person themselves). An integrated Chiron is highly material, and mastering its opposition offers an interesting variant of the talent for enduring, unconventional perception and creativity in areas related to the planet. For instance, mastering the opposition of Chiron to Pluto (which will cost the individual dearly) bestows extraordinary critical abilities; it becomes very difficult to dismiss or repress this person’s remarks—they may be sharp, even witty, yet so precise, fair, and convincing. Genuine mastery of an opposition to Chiron requires deep inner work and conscious management of subconscious programs related to the planet’s spheres of influence.
