Katrin Ob’e. Astrological Dictionary

Opposition, square: imagination and intellect, experience and intuition—the entire inner world of this person is in endless conflict; they act either indecisively or cold-bloodedly to the point of numbness. They are constantly searching for something “real” that eludes them.

Avesalom Podvodny. Aspects

Saturn opposition: The person clearly hears the voice of reason, but it is unpleasant to them. An opposition of a planet to Saturn brings the issue of inner discipline and external limitations to the forefront in the areas governed by that planet. In general, a major aspect of a planet to Saturn creates a deep desire to thoroughly understand its principle, which initially appears in the person in a deeply frozen and unprocessed form. For an opposition, resistance to processing and deep study of the planetary principle is characteristic—it manifests as the person internally gathers their focus and begins to examine the issue carefully, only to find it immediately drained, flattened, and utterly uninteresting. Unprocessed Saturn kills any life in the matter it touches, and in this case, that life is externalized, meaning the planetary principle suddenly manifests in the external world and seems unattainable. As a result, the person develops a false impression that the planetary principle is completely inaccessible to them. With Pluto, this can be endured, but with Venus or the Moon, it is much harder, leading to frustration, neuroses, and complete emotional rigidity. On the other hand, attempts to emphasize the planet’s principle and identify with it are often accompanied by a complete disregard for Saturn’s principle—deep processing and careful refinement in inner life—while simultaneously reinforcing rigid Saturnian limitations in the areas governed by the planet. Here, karma demands that the person establish a very precise interaction between the planet’s principles and Saturn’s, meaning necessary self-restraint and precision in the chosen direction. If poorly processed or handled with forceful, careless methods (which Saturn does not tolerate), the planet can become literally stuck in a deadlock (its principle frozen in Saturn’s lower octave), and extracting it will be very difficult. Processing Neptune and Pluto, as well as harmonious influences from Jupiter or Chiron, can help. At a high level, this opposition grants extraordinary precision, depth, and effectiveness in the planet’s manifestations, along with greater stability in the areas it governs due to wisdom and foresight.

Neptune opposition: Lies are not a seasoning—they are always the main course. At a low level, a Neptune opposition brings the issue of external and internal deception and self-deception into the areas governed by the planet. It also introduces the theme of lower meditations, i.e., vices of the kind governed by the planet. By emphasizing Neptune, the person may take pleasure in the lowest expressions of the planet in the external world, and self-deception can be so strong that they do not recognize their involvement in something bad, unworthy, or immoral. Conversely, by emphasizing the planet’s principle, the person will encounter deception and misunderstanding in the external world and will genuinely wonder what is happening, unaware that internal dishonesty, self-deception, and deception of others create a cloud of Neptune’s lower octave around them, and the world begins to deceive them in return. For example, with a Mars–Neptune opposition (a very dangerous aspect at a low level), the person may internally enjoy any external activity, especially aggression, completely oblivious to its destructive consequences for peace and others. Later, the situation turns, and aggression from the external world rebounds onto them, while Neptune delivers the effect of complete incomprehension, offense, and injustice over what is happening to them—all with a sweet aftertaste of lower Neptunian masochistic meditation. Then (oh horror!) the opposition’s accents shift to the opposite, distorting external reality—the person loses their understanding of others, and internally, destructive Martian self-aggression begins, possibly with acute guilt and remorse that the external world categorically does not understand or accept. Then the accents shift again. Processing here is complex, as it requires deep, intimate, and essential changes in the person’s relationship to the planet’s principle—they must learn to understand and love it and be honest with themselves and the external world in the relevant areas, at least not lying outright. For example, a Neptune opposition to the Ascendant (i.e., Neptune conjunct the Descendant) requires the person to stop lying to their partners and open enemies (to which they are highly inclined), or they will never escape the cloud of general deception and false positions. At a high level of processing, the person gains stable, subtle, and deep understanding of the planet’s principle, the ability for high meditations in its areas, which they can then carefully and gently convey to others.

Frances Sakoian. Aspects

Suspicion, a sour expression, pain, groundless fears from the subconscious and past memories, which leaves a mark on relationships with people. Timid restraint provokes distrust in others. They must learn to be straightforward and honest in communication, as an openly acknowledged conflict is considered resolved. In the worst case, they become cunning, deceitful, or are themselves deceived. They often use covert means to satisfy ambition or fall into traps set by others, which can affect their reputation. Possible public scandals. Paranoia and martyr complexes often lead to psychiatric hospitalization. Psychological difficulties run deep, are difficult to diagnose, and resist treatment.

S.V. Shestopalov. Aspects of Planets

Disillusionment, deep emotional experiences; a tendency toward depression, despair, and melancholy reflections; secret sorrow, loneliness; temptation to indulge in the lowest feelings and aspirations; lies, slander, deception, fraud, suspicion, cunning, dishonesty, hypocrisy. The positive side—can grant great spiritual strength, concentration, spiritual firmness, and high morality.
