Catherine Aubier. Astrological Dictionary
Opposition, square: religiosity becomes truly aggressive. For a person with such an aspect in the chart, there is a tendency to loudly declare their religiosity and use it in the struggle for influence and power. If taken to extremes, with certain aspects of Jupiter and Uranus, the person may consider themselves a god; in a conflict between Jupiter and Neptune, they imagine themselves an infallible father. In less extreme cases, there is an inability to take a clear position, maladjustment, and a tendency to rely excessively on others.

Jupiter opposition: If, by admiring another, we identify with them, then by admiring ourselves, we project onto someone else. The Jupiter opposition gives the planet (and the person themselves in the spheres it governs) a sense of extraordinary importance. Indeed, working through such an opposition grants the planet an exceptionally stable (karmic) privileged position and opportunities to expand its principle, which constantly arise both in the person’s life and in the lives of those connected to them. At a low level, however, there is no constructive interaction between the Jupiterian and planetary principles, and depending on the emphasis on the planets in the opposition, the person falls into one of two positions. Of course, it is more pleasant when the emphasis is on Jupiter, and the person internally feels like a wealthy potential benefactor of those they deem worthy. However, the planetary principle is lost in their arrogance, gradually externalizing and beginning to act against the person themselves. For example, a Jupiter opposition to Venus may produce a talented and highly erudite art critic, but at a lower level of aspect processing, the person will only believe (with complete inner conviction) that they excel in art (and love), constantly imposing their judgments and pompously confusing others. (A pronounced Jupiter opposition, such as its opposition to a stellium, can, alongside great opportunities and abilities and strong patrons, also bring perfect blindness to one’s own greatness, insane arrogance, and complete lack of self-criticism.)
An emphasis on the planet, on the other hand, activates various temptations, but working through the aspect lies in expanding inner potential. Thus, in the case of a Venus opposition to Jupiter, this alternative with an emphasis on Venus might look like this: either external fame, exhibitions, public and international activities, or a shift in creative channels (mastered style or technique) and the development of something new. A Saturn opposition to Jupiter may, at some point, present the person with a choice: either rigid control over numerous subjects, or the development and mastery of broad areas of inner space. Both may be needed in life, but it is important not to confuse these stages of biography.
Neptune opposition: Lies are never a spice—they are always the main course. At a low level, the Neptune opposition raises the issue of external and internal deception and self-deception in the spheres governed by the planet; here, the theme of lower meditations arises—that is, vices of the kind governed by the planet. With an emphasis on Neptune, the person may take pleasure in the lowest manifestations of the planet in the external world, and self-deception may be so strong that the person does not recognize their participation in something bad, unworthy, or immoral. Conversely, with an emphasis on the planetary principle, the person will encounter deception and misunderstanding in the external world and will genuinely wonder what is happening, not realizing that internal dishonesty, self-deception, and deception of others create a cloud of lower octave Neptune around them, and the world begins to deceive them.
For example, in a Mars opposition to Neptune (a very dangerous aspect at a low level), the person may internally enjoy any external activity, especially aggression, completely unaware of its destructive consequences for peace and others. Later, the situation will turn slightly, and the aggression of the external world will turn against them, while Neptune will bring the effect of complete incomprehension, offense, and injustice at what is happening to them—but all with a sweet aftertaste of lower Neptunian masochistic meditation. Then (oh horror!) the emphasis of the opposition will shift to the opposite, distorting external reality—i.e., the person will decisively lose understanding of others, and internally destructive Martian self-aggression will begin, possibly with acute feelings of guilt and repentance, which the external world will categorically not understand or accept. Then the emphasis will shift again.
Working through this is complex, as it requires deep, intimate, and essential changes in the person’s attitude toward the planetary principle—they must learn to understand and love it and be honest with themselves and the external world in the relevant spheres, at least not lying outright. For example, a Neptune opposition to the Ascendant (i.e., Neptune conjunct the Descendant) requires the person to stop lying to their partners and open enemies (to which they are very prone), or they will never escape the cloud of general deception and false positions.
At a high level of processing, the person gains a stable, subtle, and deep understanding of the planetary principle, the ability for high meditations in its spheres, which they can carefully and thoughtfully convey to others.
Frances Sakoian. Aspects
Insincere without intent, scattered, promising what they cannot deliver. Unreliable, impractical unless other factors intervene. There is a flaw corresponding to the sign and house where Jupiter and Neptune or their rulers are placed. In the worst case—religious megalomania; everything depends on the positions of Mercury and Saturn. Often a tendency toward religious mysticism, distorted ideas of faith. Idealism brings no practical benefit to people. Generous, ready to help, but unable to judge. Sentimental, with an excess of feelings that others find unpleasant. Prone to cults. Feel chosen in spiritual matters. Dream of unusual journeys. Aspect of religious pilgrimage. Threat of danger from gas, fumes, drugs, and alcohol. Little practical experience; obstacles in financial and social matters.
S.V. Shestopalov. Aspects of Planets
A strong tendency toward idealization; risk of being deceived; disappointments, losses; a propensity for slander and intrigue; immoral behavior, extravagance. Positive side—high spiritual aspirations, self-sacrifice, mercy, compassion.
