An aspect that generally signifies a person’s openness of mind toward cosmic intelligence. With other favorable aspects, significant spiritual development is possible, as well as engagement in philosophy, magic, or occult sciences. In the case of an overall unfavorable horoscope or a poor position of Jupiter and Pluto, there may be a lack of moderation, danger from poisons, radiation, or excesses in general. Pursuits in the occult sciences may even lead to destruction.

Opposition, square: a rift between the superficial and the profound, creating dissatisfaction and disharmony. A person is unable to reconcile their desires and is often disappointed. In a favorable case, they may establish their position by overcoming Pluto’s mysteries, but in an unfavorable scenario, they may undermine the laws and rules accepted by society.

Jupiter opposition: If, by admiring another, we identify with them, then by admiring ourselves, we project onto someone else. The Jupiter opposition grants the planet (and the person in the spheres it governs) a sense of extraordinary importance. Indeed, working through such an opposition gives the planet an exceptionally stable (karmic) privileged position and opportunities for expansion of its principle, which constantly arise both in the person’s life and in the lives of those connected to them. However, at a low level, there is no constructive interaction between the Jupiterian and planetary principles, and depending on the emphasis on the planets in opposition, the person falls into one of two positions. Of course, it is more pleasant when the emphasis is on Jupiter, and the person internally feels wealthy and a potential benefactor of those chosen at their discretion. Yet the planetary principle is lost in their arrogance, gradually externalizing and beginning to act against the person themselves. For example, a Jupiter opposition to Venus may produce a talented and highly erudite art critic, but at a lower level of aspect processing, the person will only believe (with complete inner conviction) that they excel in art (and love), constantly imposing their judgments and pomposity, thereby embarrassing others. (A pronounced Jupiter opposition, such as its opposition to a stellium, may, alongside great opportunities and abilities and strong patrons, also bring absolute blindness to one’s own grandeur, insane arrogance, and complete lack of self-criticism.)

An emphasis on the planet, on the other hand, activates various temptations, but the aspect’s processing lies in expanding the planet’s inner potential. Thus, in the case of a Venus opposition to Jupiter, this alternative with an emphasis on Venus might manifest as either external fame, exhibitions, public and international activity, or a shift in creative channels (mastered techniques or styles) and the development of something new.

A Saturn opposition to Jupiter may, at some point, present the person with a choice: either rigid control over numerous subordinates or the development and mastery of vast areas of inner space. Life may require both, but it is important not to confuse these stages of biography.

Pluto opposition: Good struggles against evil are smeared. Generally, Pluto’s major aspect karmically aligns the planet with a program of purification, often involving painful but ultimately irreversible losses. At a low level, the opposition pits the planet’s principle against Pluto’s purifying actions; the person perceives these as destructive aggression aimed at them (in the spheres governed by the planet) and attempts to resist. In such a case, they clearly emphasize the planet, and Pluto appears to them as an external force delivering (understandably) devastating blows to an innocent person, always striking the same spot (the principle of the planet or the house where it resides). The person may complain (quietly), protest (loudly), or fight (desperately), but it is better for them to accept and, most importantly, understand that Pluto intends not to destroy the planet’s principle itself (in a Pluto–Moon opposition, the person may feel that fate simply wants to destroy them along with their family, for some reason or another—often the very octaves from which it is hardest for the person to part unconsciously). Sometimes (usually unnoticed by the person), the chart shifts the emphasis in the opposition, transferring the main focus to Pluto, so that the person becomes a conduit for the Absolute’s (Fate’s) purifying will and does to the planet’s principle in the external world roughly what Fate has recently done to them. Often, the externalization of the planet manifests through certain individuals who fall under the fatal influence of the person, who may not even suspect it (though such suspicions tend to arise with time). Strong dark teachers with a Pluto opposition may long maintain the emphasis on Pluto, brutally suppressing and destroying the planet’s principle in their students, but eventually, Pluto’s blow usually catches up with them as well. Here, the processing primarily involves cultivating humility and eradicating within oneself the primitive thirst for absolute power over the manifestations of the planet’s principle in the surrounding world, as well as the desire to reshape others, ruthlessly eliminating everything deemed vile and unworthy (for example, a Pluto opposition to Venus may create a craving for power over people’s minds and movements, but not the kind of power that stems from the higher octave of the 9th house, rather: “so they dare not speak or even think anything that does not belong to me!”).

The person must understand that their planet’s principle can only be constructively utilized in external life after undergoing thorough Plutonian purification within themselves, for which they will have to make many external and internal sacrifices. At a high level, the person gains the opportunity for the highest development of the planet’s principle and participation in large-scale karmic programs.

Imposing their worldview, considering it a sacred duty, and attempting to enact spiritual reform. Those who resist them become their adversaries. Often, the thirst for power and money drives them to dirty schemes. Recognition eludes them due to disharmonious relationships with others. Arrogance and a lack of humility make them unpopular. If they take this too far, it will be their downfall.
