Mercury Trine: To make a shallow thought profound, it is not enough to dig a hole for it. The Mercury trine gives excellent mental abilities and dexterity, as well as luck in transactions in areas governed by the planet, provided the person makes minimal effort. For example, the Mercury–Mars trine grants eloquence and mental agility, the ease of reasoning, and the ability to complete complex mental work in seconds (and sell it profitably). Yet all this seems too easy at first glance, and if there is no additional interest or external obstacles, the person will likely settle for stating: “Well, it’s all so simple, so simple, so simple…” The trine simultaneously grants great superficial abilities—one grasps things instantly—but laziness and an inner aversion to hard mental work appear where it could be avoided. In such cases, self-deception arises in areas governed by the planet: the person believes they understand everything at once, yet their understanding is superficial, and their mental control over the planetary principle is crude and irrational—something they (and those around them) often fail to notice. On a low level, Mercury will produce rigid thought patterns that literally crush the planet’s principle, yet the person won’t notice because, at first glance, they seem to be doing everything correctly. If the planet is stronger, it will direct the person’s thoughts accordingly, while mental self-control plummets almost to zero, potentially leading very far—all while the person remains fully convinced they are thinking and speaking correctly.
Thus, the Mercury–Pluto trine grants a sharp critical mind, but if Pluto is stronger and the person is on a low level, the entire world will appear black to them. They will see only vices and crimes in everything (except themselves), and nothing will shake this view. The person may not even feel deeply unhappy about it but may instead derive a certain satisfaction from daily confirmations of their unshakable life stance: “The world is no good.”
Chiron Trine: Words, like children, play effortlessly only with themselves. The Chiron trine grants the person, in the spheres influenced by the planet, a remarkable freshness of perception of the world and their own expressions. They manage to look at things in an unusual yet highly convincing way and present them to others, making it difficult to forget or suppress what has been seen. This aspect often bestows a unique sense of humor and the ability to entertain others, sometimes thoroughly baffling and confusing them—a source of great satisfaction for the person.
On a high level, this aspect fosters penetration and development of the planet’s principle in ways that seem incredible to contemporaries but become fundamental to future generations: what Chiron reveals eventually becomes mainstream. On a low level, the person tends to exploit the Chiron trine without exerting effort, growing accustomed to chaotic and surprising situations resolving themselves quickly and painlessly, as if by a witty joke of fate. However, anyone who believes they have fully grasped Chiron’s humor—and especially those who think this planetary influence will never touch them personally—is deeply mistaken. When fate’s humor targets essential aspects of their own life (and the principles of planets always relate to such matters), the person is rarely amused. They desperately try to understand what is happening to them, but the unworked-through Chiron trine denies them this understanding. Eventually, they usually find a way out, but the feeling lingers that they are in a foreign country at a stand-up show, struggling to grasp the comedian’s jokes in a language they barely know—while the entire audience roars with laughter for no reason they can fathom.
