Mercury trine: To make a shallow thought profound, it is not enough to dig a hole for it. The Mercury trine grants excellent mental abilities and dexterity, as well as luck in transactions in areas governed by the planet, provided the person exerts minimal effort. For example, the Mercury–Mars trine gives strength to speech and thought, ease of reasoning, and the ability to perform complex mental work in seconds (and sell it profitably), but all of this seems too easy at first glance. If there is no additional interest or obstacles, the person will likely limit themselves to stating: “Well, this is simple, and this is simple…” The Mercury trine simultaneously grants broad superficial abilities—the person grasps things instantly—but laziness and an inner antipathy toward hard mental work where it is unnecessary are also present. In such cases, self-deception arises in areas governed by the planet: the person believes they understand everything at once, but in reality, their understanding is superficial, and their mental control over the planetary principle is crude and irrational, which they (and those around them) often fail to notice.

At a low level, Mercury will produce rigid thought patterns that literally crush the planet’s principle, though the person will not notice, as they seem to be doing everything correctly on the surface. If the planet is stronger, it will direct the person’s thoughts accordingly, while mental self-control plummets almost to zero, which can lead very far—all while the person remains fully convinced that they are thinking and speaking correctly. For instance, the Mercury–Pluto trine grants an excellent critical mind, but if Pluto is stronger, at a low level, the person will see the entire world in black, finding only vices and crimes in everything (and everyone) except themselves. Nothing will shake their perspective, and they may even derive a certain satisfaction from it, confirming their unshakable life stance daily: “The world is no good.”

Saturn trine: Evolution is universal. The Saturn trine grants the person natural discipline, concentration, and diligence in areas related to the planet, as well as the ability and opportunity to shift their burden onto others. On the other hand, even the Saturn trine imposes some restraint, coldness, and rigidity on the planetary principle, which can only be overcome through focused inner work on the planet’s principle. Here, the obstacle—typical of the trine—is laziness, though it is not obvious, as Saturn itself demands concentration and effort. However, in the sphere of the planetary principle, the person tends to work exactly as much as circumstances demand and no more. Circumstances (in areas governed by the planet) never compel them to concentrate or delve too deeply or intensely into the subject. While they may appear to others as a hero of selfless labor, their inner concentration and effort tend to be clearly insufficient.

A person with a Saturn–Sun trine will look in bewilderment at those who cannot gather themselves and do what is objectively necessary, and they will find it completely incomprehensible when a person with unaspected Saturn complains about their inability to focus and discipline themselves in the most urgent circumstances. Working through the aspect leads to serious development of the planetary principle, primarily within the person—deep and thorough refinement of the corresponding subconscious programs, promising creative achievements and profound individual self-expression.

At a low level, superficial efforts and focus on the planetary principle are mistaken for depth, which can lead to professional disappointment: the person shows great promise but soon falters. A brilliant physics student becomes a mediocre software engineer (an unrefined Saturn–Uranus trine). Unfortunately, this is not all: the Saturn trine, which karmically implies deep processing of the planet’s principle and creates all conditions for it, in cases where this does not happen, freezes the planet. The person loses flexibility, sensitivity, and understanding in the relevant areas, sometimes becoming enslaved to a rigid egregore (Saturn trines, such as those of jailers and concentration camp commanders).
