Astrology Through the Lens of Mythology – LEO

It is time for the mythological Leo.

The king of beasts, the lion, after whom the corresponding zodiac sign is named and whose golden mane is associated with the Sun — the traditional symbol of power and strength. Solar light was so constant that it never captured the human imagination as dramatically as thunderstorms did, and thus people did not immediately recognize the significance of solar energy. Unlike the god of thunder and lightning, who serves as a messenger of higher powers and divine fire, the solar god primarily embodies inner personal authority. The image of the Sun is linked with the emergence of empires, before whose brilliance former petty kingdoms fade.
The Sun moves across the sky like a wheel, which becomes its universal symbol. Like a wheel touching the Earth with one edge and Heaven with the other, the Sun embodies the fullness and wholeness of existence. This associates the solar archetype with the era of the invention of the wheel and the spread of wheeled chariots. The speed of chariots allowed vast territories to be conquered, enabling the unification of lands and initiating the formation of empires and the idea of absolute rule. By manifesting the principle of earthly reflection of the celestial, the Sun itself becomes the source of all and symbolizes the creation, within the natural Universe, of a world founded upon rational laws. The Sun defines the boundaries of individual freedom and life creativity — and this new personal identity forms the concept of the individual soul. The Sun bestows upon people the energy for creativity.
A person born under the sign of Leo equally understands both the higher manifestations of spirit and the dominion over matter: like Ra, who daily surveys the sky, the Earth, and its depths, such a person perceives a single divine essence in everything and is therefore inclined toward generosity and benevolence. Leos love art and strive to illuminate the world with vivid colors. In the zodiacal circle (moving from Pisces), the sign of Leo corresponds to the point of the golden ratio, which defines the harmonious proportions of earthly beauty. Yet creative realization requires not personal will, but transpersonal will. If a person claims as their own the gift bestowed upon them by life, the result of such a worldview becomes the primary human sin — pride and individualism, which confine their existence within the limits of their own horizon and deprive them of the ability to create, just as Bellerophon, having grown arrogant, was rejected by the gods and even his horse Pegasus. In the conflict between individuality and society, the individual often suffers defeat, like Phaethon, who ascended to the sky only once in a golden chariot, unless they take responsibility for other people. Only by accepting this responsibility does a person become the king of nature and the son of the Sun.
