Mercury – Chiron Square

Mercury square: If a thought occurred to a thought, but did not settle into words, it means it was poorly invited. The Mercury square gives a person significant difficulties in integrating the principle of the Planet with rational thinking and speech. Here, interpretation depends on which of the two—Mercury or the Planet—is stronger in the square. If Mercury prevails, the person will perceive their own (and sometimes others’) thoughts and reflections regarding the Planet’s matters as extremely important and intelligent, although more often than not these ideas greatly distort the planetary principle, because the person rationally understands little about it, even if some of their other thoughts may indeed be valid. If, however, the Planet is stronger in the square, thinking as a whole will remain under its disharmonious influence—distorted, trivialized, narrowed, etc. The Planet will also rudely intrude upon the style of the sign in which Mercury is placed, partially suppressing it. Generally, the Mercury square is characterized by a strong mental preoccupation with the Planet’s issues and spheres of influence, and initially by a distorted intellect, marked by fragmented perception and understanding of the essence of the matter—sometimes accurate and deep, but mostly unsatisfactory, which the person themselves finds extremely difficult to believe, even after a series of events. The level of working through this aspect is clearly visible in the quality of speech when the person talks about planetary issues (provided they speak relatively calmly, i.e., from Mercury, not from Mars). At a low level of integration, individuals with the Mercury square often tend to study (lecture) others, asserting themselves at their expense, yet without truly understanding the subject they are discussing. Processing this aspect requires systematic work to fill the gaps in mental perception of the planetary principle and to abandon direct mental pressure upon it, which leads to crude profanation (as well as a tendency toward speculation). Next, one must learn to overcome one’s unnatural dullness that arises when trying to understand something new about the Planet (the subconscious resistance can be very sharp, even leading to severe depression and inability to read a text), and not give in to emotional outbursts of resistance from deeply understanding individuals. Chiron square: Having descended to the bottom of the life stream, one should not release bubbles without good reason. The Chiron square presents the person with strong, incomprehensible, and seemingly insurmountable dead ends in the Planet’s spheres of influence, which are slow to open. If the square is in the fixed cross, these may be minor dead ends constantly replacing one another, behind which, however, one large recurring dead end can be discerned. The Chiron square indicates a karmic demand to view the Planet and its related issues in a non-standard way—particularly by seeking their source in one’s own imperfection, disharmony in the interaction of subconscious programs, and adherence to social stereotypes, which Chiron always overcomes, and in the case of a square, does so most intensely. The Chiron square does not allow the person to follow conventional views and stereotypes in the relevant spheres: they quickly lead action into a dead end, triggering incredible chaos, behind which something significant lies hidden, though its nature remains unclear. At a moderate level, a person may develop an attitude resembling black humor, which is better than panic but still not constructive. Here, the individual must examine themselves, understand the role of the planetary principle in their life (both external and internal), and do something constructive from Chiron’s perspective—that is, to materialize certain subtle plans related to the Planet. This usually appears as a materialized miracle, yet one that can be taught to others. At a high level, this aspect brings breakthroughs into great creativity within the Planet’s spheres and the ability to uncover original talents in others, but also a persistent sense of dissatisfaction—both with one’s own methods and specific achievements—as if someone behind the person’s back, with unveiled mockery escalating into outright derision, keeps asking: “And?” At a low level, the person may set themselves the goal of discrediting any creative expressions of the planetary principle and may achieve a certain degree of success in this, especially regarding their own personal manifestations.
