Neptune Square – Chiron
(Transit. Neptune → Natal Chiron)
Avesalom Podvodny. Aspects
Neptune Square: One needs an extraordinary degree of inner honesty to recognize its absence. This is the most difficult aspect. A Neptune square produces distorted meditations, often of a lower order, an incomprehensible attraction to the planetary principle, coupled with a very poor—or rather, false—understanding of it, illusions, and errors that are hard to believe in and even harder to let go of. Neptune deceives the person, the person deceives the world and themselves, then catches a glimpse of part of this deception and stops believing—just in case—in anything, including themselves, though not for long (or rather, only partially), after which they deceive themselves and the world again, and the world deceives them in turn. This can lead into the abyss, to despair, to vices, or it may, on the contrary, awaken a higher aspiration and call the person to God. The outcome is difficult to predict, but in any case, one should always remain vigilant and never consider any boundary taken as definitively conquered. In the lower manifestation, this can feed on very dirty meditations (at the level of alcohol, drugs, family scandals, etc.), and re-educating it will not be easy.
A Neptune–Saturn square can provide a perverse pleasure in one’s own inability to act, and the person may live for a long time in a cycle: brief concentrated effort ending in nothingness—prolonged meditation on one’s own worthlessness, with a masochistic tint, and this cycle will likely involve others. (In general, a square involving higher planets is an aspect of dark teachers, especially in mystical and psychological contexts.)
Karmically, this aspect signifies the necessity of working through the theme of self-deception and lower meditations (“vices”) on the material of the planetary principle, whose inclusion makes the corresponding subconscious programs especially vivid. This work is challenging; it requires renouncing all lower meditations (including sweet self-accusations) and consistently engaging in honest, constructive work in areas related to the planet. Pluto’s involvement, and to some extent Saturn’s processing, can help. At a high level, the person comprehends the subtlest manifestations of the planetary principle and its connection to the principle of cosmic love as it manifests in external reality and the souls of specific people. This can make them a mystic, a preacher, or a saint, though they may still be haunted by an irrational sense of guilt toward the world in the planet’s spheres.
Chiron Square: Once you’ve sunk to the bottom of the life stream, there’s no need to blow bubbles unless absolutely necessary. A Chiron square gives the person, in the areas governed by the planet, strong, incomprehensible, and seemingly insurmountable dead ends in development that are not easily opened. If the square is part of a fixed cross, these may be minor cul-de-sacs that constantly change, yet behind them, one can discern one great, recurring obstacle. A Chiron square signifies a karmic demand to view the planet and its associated issues in a non-standard way, in particular, to seek their source in one’s own imperfection, the disharmony of subconscious programs, and adherence to social stereotypes—all of which Chiron always overcomes, and in the case of a square, most intensely.
A Chiron square denies the person the possibility of following ordinary views and stereotypes in the relevant areas: they quickly lead action into a dead end, and an incredible chaos arises, behind which something stands—but what exactly remains unclear. At an average level, the person may develop an attitude akin to black humor, which is better than panic but still not constructive. Here, the person must examine themselves, understand the role of the planetary principle in their life (external and internal), and do something constructive from Chiron’s perspective—that is, materialize certain subtle plans related to the planet. This usually appears as a materialized miracle, yet one that can be taught to others. At a high level, this aspect grants a breakthrough into great creativity in the spheres tied to the planet and the ability to reveal an original talent in others, though it may also bring a sense of dissatisfaction with one’s own methods and specific achievements, as if someone behind the person, with undisguised mockery turning into outright derision, is asking: “And?”
At a low level, the person may set out to discredit any creative manifestations of the planetary principle and, to some extent, succeed in this, particularly regarding their own self.
