Jupiter – Neptune Square

Jupiter Square Neptune Transit

(Transit. Jupiter → Natal Neptune)

Het Monster. Aspects

Excess of emotions, idealism. Building “castles in the air,” and in life matters—chaos. A craving for unusual experiences—on journeys, in sects. Aimless wanderings in dreams and reality. Sympathies are wasted indiscriminately, often tearful, yet incapable of helping in practical ways. Sometimes eloquent, skillfully describing their plans, which they are unable to fulfill. If there are no harmonizing aspects—laziness, dishonesty. If money is present—excesses, love of luxury, weight gain.

Katrin Ob’ye. Astrological Dictionary

Opposition, square: religiosity becomes truly aggressive. For a person with such an aspect in the chart, there is a tendency to loudly declare their religiosity and use it in the struggle for influence and power. If the aspect intensifies to extremes, with a certain configuration of Jupiter and Uranus, the person may consider themselves a god; in the case of a Jupiter-Neptune conflict, they imagine themselves an infallible father figure. At a more modest level of influence—an inability to take a clear stance, maladjustment, a tendency to rely excessively on others.

Avesalom Podvodny. Aspects

Jupiter square: True greatness requires no proof, only measure. The Jupiter square promises the planet much… unfortunately, most often, these promises remain unfulfilled. In the areas governed by the planet, the person feels their greatness—not only potential but actual—yet those around them, as a rule, do not see it or doubt it, and the first somehow never manages to manifest. The Jupiter square grants the planet expansion, but not in the way the person desires: either in the wrong direction, or in a style alien to them, or simply not what they expected; at least, that is how it seems to the person. This square (which can be called the Lucifer aspect) fosters the temptation of pride, superficiality, and too easily obtaining what the person wants but not exactly what they need for evolutionary growth. In the areas governed by the planet, the person shows a constant superficial interest in “higher matters,” philosophical generalizations, and abstract-religious approaches, yet they tend to stop precisely at the point where something truly important and interesting begins for them—but not in the form of a luxurious gift, effort.

For example, a Venus-Jupiter square with a pronounced Jupiter may produce a person who attracts a great deal of love, appears beautiful, interesting, and unusual at first glance, yet in concrete romantic relationships, they are entirely absorbed in themselves, their beauty, and their grandiosity, utterly incapable (and unwilling) to spare even a moment’s thought for the hopelessness of social (let alone emotional and sexual) connections—though arrogance does not diminish. Karma-wise, this aspect demands (in the areas governed by the planet) learning to treat gifts and doors opened by fate with extreme caution and care, understanding that they imply further work and are ultimately meant for the world, not the individual. At a low level, the person tends to (if there is even the slightest opportunity) play the role of a generous benefactor, which they fail miserably at, as their self-interest and inadequacy or uselessness of their generosity are glaringly transparent, and their overall clumsiness provokes more irritation than pity or gratitude (the latter). Working through this aspect grants the rare ability to wisely use one’s luck, abandon false opportunities and temptations, and receive the invaluable gift of true spiritual aid, as well as the capacity (in the areas governed by the planet) to guide others onto the right path by showing them the karmic role of their temptations and illusions.

Neptune square: One needs an extraordinary amount of inner honesty to recognize its absence. This is the most challenging aspect. The Neptune square produces distorted meditations, often of a lower order, an inexplicable attraction to the person of the planetary principle, coupled with a very poor understanding—or rather, a false understanding—of it, illusions, and errors that the person finds hard to believe and even harder to let go of. Neptune deceives the person, the person deceives the world and themselves, then sees part of this deception and stops believing—just in case—in anything, including themselves, but not for long (or rather, partially), after which they deceive themselves and the world again. This can lead to despair, vices, or, conversely, awaken a higher calling and summon the person to God. The outcome is hard to predict, but in any case, the person should always remain vigilant and never consider any achieved level as definitively conquered. At a lower level, the aspect may feed on very base meditations (alcohol, drugs, family scandals, etc.), and re-educating it will not be easy. A Neptune-Saturn square can produce a perverse enjoyment of one’s inability to do anything, and the person may live for a long time in a cycle: brief concentrated effort ending in nothingness—prolonged meditation on their own worthlessness, with a masochistic tint, and this cycle will likely involve others. (In general, a square of higher planets is an aspect of dark teachers, especially with a mystical or psychological inclination.) Karma-wise, this aspect demands working through the theme of self-deception and lower meditations (“vices”) through the material of the planetary principle, the inclusion of which makes the corresponding subconscious programs very pronounced. Working through this is difficult; it requires abandoning all lower meditations (including sweet self-accusations) and consistently honest, constructive work in the areas related to the planet. Incorporating Pluto and, to some extent, working through Saturn can help. At a high level, the person grasps the subtlest manifestations of the planetary principle and its connection to the principle of cosmic love as it manifests in external reality and the souls of specific people, which can make them a mystic, preacher, or saint—but they will not be freed from the irrational feeling of guilt toward the world in the areas governed by the planet.

Frances Sakoian. Aspects

Excess of emotions, undisciplined, religious idealism disconnected from reality, yielding strange fruits. Building castles in the air, and in life matters—chaos. A craving for extraordinary experiences in travel or mystical societies. The passion for wandering prevents staying in one place. Aimless wanderings in reality or dreams. Friendly, sympathetic, compassionate sympathies squandered indiscriminately. Often tearful but unable to help practically, as effort is required. They promise more than they can deliver. Sometimes dishonest, verbose, eloquent in describing their plans, which amount to nothing. Lack of discipline and the ability to carry out their projects. Laziness, if there is no refutation. The wealthy indulge in vanity and gluttony. Excess weight or fluid retention in the body, a heavy appearance.

S.V. Shestopalov. Aspects of Planets

Strong tendency toward idealization; risk of being deceived; disappointments, losses; may incline toward slander, intrigue; immoral behavior, extravagance. Positive side—high spiritual aspirations, self-sacrifice, mercy, compassion.
