Why You Shouldn’t Fill Empty Plastic Bottles with Water

Our people tend to reuse disposable bags and plastic bottles a second time. The latter are used at home as containers for sunflower oil and water. Especially in summer, it’s convenient to take frozen water along. After all, you don’t want to buy mineral water every day! Ordinary water is significantly cheaper.

Scientists do not approve of such savings. They explain their position by pointing out that after use, microscopic cracks form inside the containers—imperceptible to the naked eye. These cracks create an ideal environment for the growth of fungi and bacteria. It’s particularly unfortunate if norovirus develops.

Moreover, the process of bacterial growth cannot be stopped by washing the bottle multiple times after its initial use.

These conclusions became evident after testing 76 water bottles that parents had given to their children for school.

Norovirus was detected in the majority of the bottles, with levels exceeding the norm by several times.

Scientists emphasize that this issue affects all bottles that have ever been opened, emptied, and then stored at standard room temperature.

Another experiment was conducted using bottles and water. Several hundred bottles were reused. The results of this trial are disheartening. All bottles ended up harboring large amounts of bacteria, posing a serious threat to health.

At best, you might get off with a scare and suffer mild food poisoning accompanied by diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea. Otherwise, there’s a real risk of developing a severe form of fever.

What about soap? Soapy solution does indeed remove bacteria from their settled environment, but only temporarily.
