Sun Decile: Was the creation of man a humanistic act? This aspect raises in a person’s life the issue of humanity in their own acts of will and initiatives, as well as (usually weak) imperative influences of fate within the sphere of influence of the Planet. In this sphere, the individual will be relatively free, and regulating their will must be done based on considerations of humanism—as they understand it. At the very least, the idea of humanity, or this theme itself, will arise in connection with (usually faintly expressed) necessity to do something within the planetary principle’s sphere, or to manifest a certain personal initiative there. With a well-aspected Sun, these initiatives will be appropriate and appear genuinely humane; with an afflicted Sun, the person will often be overly active, and despite good intentions, the outcome will prove lamentable and disharmonious—especially if the Planet is afflicted, making its principle difficult to satisfy. In such cases, external coercion over one’s will in the planet’s spheres will be experienced as utterly inhumane, although actual tangible harm in the planet’s domains will usually be minor. Venus Decile: Social consciousness is significantly more humane than social subconsciousness. When Venus’s influence strengthens within the planet’s spheres, and a person’s feelings soften, moving toward appreciation—especially of beauty in forms and relationships—they feel an influx of humanism (as they understand it). At a lower level, this means extreme capriciousness, where in relevant situations the individual perceives any lack of sufficient attention, love, or even a simple failure to match their aesthetic tastes as sharply inhumane (toward themselves). For example, a woman with a Sun-Venus decile may (sincerely) regard as inhumane toward herself a man’s initiative in inviting her to an evening where the hosts’ restrooms are unsatisfactory. When the decile is afflicted, these effects may be emotionally intense, yet in reality Venus exerts only an indirect influence on the planetary principle. In its harmonious form, this is a deceptive aspect, since the humanity expressed through Venus may be mistaken for love, which, unfortunately, is far from the same thing. For instance, a Venus-Mars decile (if not strongly afflicted) may produce a person who behaves humanely, beautifully, and attentively in interactions with the opposite sex, yet elevated romantic love (Venus) and fiery passion (Mars) are blended into humane expressions, which may not satisfy their partner at all. The decile provides an overly subtle (often even for the person themselves) synthesis of planetary principles, indicating great achievements in past incarnations.
