Mercury sextile: Thought processes are effective in the space between what a person does not understand and what they fundamentally cannot change. The Mercury sextile gives the planet the ability to constructively interact with the principle of thinking. The statement “the mind rules all” is both a distortion of reality and its falsification; however, in the sphere of the planet’s influence, the sextile provides a person with various opportunities for rational understanding and tactical mental management. The Mercury sextile does not offer instant and easy superficial rational comprehension of the planet’s principle, which is typical of a trine, but it makes efforts aimed at grasping it constructive. With some effort, a person reaches a level where their understanding does not profane the planet’s principle but, on the contrary, gives it new directions for development. When interpreting this aspect, it is important to consider which planet in the sextile is stronger. If Mercury is stronger, the person may be tempted to consider their initial (or secondary) thoughts sufficient and effective, suppressing the planet’s principle with them, leading to significant distortions. Mental management of the planet will then prove too crude. If, however, the planet in the sextile is stronger, the person may be tempted to subordinate their thinking to its principle, resulting in biased rational understanding that hinders objectivity, and mental management will be too weak. If the planet is afflicted, the person may avoid unpleasant realities by retreating into a world of illusions, with Neptune’s help, but this will later lead to harsh disappointments or blows of fate. False pity differs from genuine compassion, which the person clearly feels when it is directed toward them.
