Don’t be surprised if your little “star child” seems a bit different from the start. Perhaps a little mysterious. Or more intellectual. Or eccentric. “Why?” You’ll hear this question often, so it’s better to be ready with a stronger argument than “because I said so.” Your child will be more willing to cooperate if they logically understand why something should be done one way and not another. They can be taught to respect the thoughts and ideas of others, even if they don’t agree—but only as long as those ideas don’t intrude upon their individuality. You should carefully consider which areas of behavior are most important to you and why. You’ll achieve better agreement on more significant issues if you allow them freedom of expression in less critical situations. For example, a strange hairstyle might be a worthwhile trade for good school grades, giving your little reformer a solid education to turn their ideas about social change into reality. Got the idea? Your child may warmly and gently greet you, but don’t expect excessive sentimentality or emotional displays in personal relationships. They’ll be friendly and open with everyone, but rarely allow anyone to get too close. It’s unlikely this child will cling to their mother or express strong emotions within the family, yet they may offer selfless help to others when they see a need. This child might ignore your reminders to clean their room, but could walk around the yard or park picking up trash.
Your child will enjoy anything new and unusual—in ideas, fashion, technology. If possible, buy them a computer or encourage their interest in this area at school. Let them try free artistic forms, modern dance, and perhaps even astrology!
