Jupiter-Saturn Sesquiquadrate
(Transit Jupiter → Natal Saturn)
Avelom Podvodnyi. Aspects
Jupiter sesquiquadrate: To whom much is given, from him will be required something entirely different. This is the aspect of homegrown philosophers within the sphere of the Planet. Here, the person will have in many ways dogmatic thinking, whose foundational bricks, upon close examination, turn out to be very solid and equally immovable, making it quite difficult to build from them a light, heaven-directed temple. In the harmonious variant, this person may demonstrate in the Planet’s spheres a tendency toward philanthropy, but usually narrowly understood and ultimately not disinterested, arising instead from failure in personally grasping the subtleties of the planetary principle and its broad assimilation. Generally, Jupiter brings happiness and expanded opportunities, but in this case it occurs somehow mechanically and formally, without regard for the person’s true desires, so that its joy is often poisoned, or what happens may seem to him utterly mocking—like receiving a stuffed puppy for a birthday instead of a real one. This element of formal benevolence and mistaken advocacy is overcome with great difficulty, especially since the person receives from life (within the planetary spheres) not the best examples to follow. Nevertheless, working through this requires deep (not broad) penetration into the planetary spheres and using one’s available capacities genuinely to help others, regardless of strengthening one’s sense of self-importance; only then will the divine voice truly resound in the temple the person has built. Saturn sesquiquadrate: When deeply drilling the well of the inner world, instead of a fountain of spirituality, oil may gush forth. This aspect is not as harsh as Saturn square, but more insidious, since it gives the person a feeling of deep penetration into the areas ruled by the Planet, yet this depth is largely illusory, while the dogmatism of the methods used to achieve it is entirely real. For example, Saturn-Mercury sesquiquadrate produces a person who always knows how things should be, especially in Mercury-ruled areas; here, his thinking is indirect, dogmatic, and unshakable, and proving its limitations to him is practically impossible. Saturn-Pluto sesquiquadrate, on the contrary, produces a person who knows how things should not be and knows exactly how to destroy them, having—at least at a lower level—not the slightest doubts about it. As long as this person remains ego-centered, the planetary sphere as a living reality remains inaccessible to him and may even provoke irritation, as it does not fit within established boundaries; in reality, he maims it, though he believes everything he does (structuring, rationally limiting, wisely guiding onto the true path) serves it exclusively for its benefit. If Saturn is afflicted, this sesquiquadrate may inflict deep emotional wounds, but their source—excessively rigid interaction with the planetary spheres—will long remain unclear or obscure. Here, working through requires great self-sacrifice and courageous deepening into the planetary spheres through the eyes of other people and in their interests, at a time when the person himself has long considered everything clear and obvious. Only when he sees the Planet through others’ eyes, through the prism of their problems, and helps resolve them, will the person be able to create something truly valuable, constructive, and reliable.
