Sun quintile: As the Lord awakens life within a person, He cares not only for the individual. Initiatives arising in the person within the spheres of the Planet will attract through their freshness and novelty, proving especially valuable in situations of stagnation and inertia (it is important, however, to understand that these initiatives may not necessarily arise directly within the Planet’s spheres, since the quintile is a minor aspect). If the Sun is afflicted, these initiatives will clash too sharply with established stereotypes, and the person, encountering prevailing resistance from the environment, may sincerely suffer, feeling how their life and sincerity are being extracted and trampled underfoot—though usually with substantial justification: such initiatives may be perceived as inadequate or even hostile by the environment. A harmonious Sun, on the contrary, brings exceptionally appealing expressions within the Planet’s spheres, and life itself seems to smile upon the individual; others become interested in their initiatives, and they are capable, if they choose, of revitalizing other people and circumstances within the Planet’s domains—though this will meet with great difficulties if the Planet itself is afflicted. If both the Sun and the Planet are well-placed, yet harmonious aspects are not actively worked with, they may ultimately dry out the vitality of the quintile through laziness and boredom; the defeat of the quintile will then present vitality as a condition of survival, giving the person the strongest impulse for its activation and development. Saturn quintile: Asceticism is the desire to focus on a single way of life. This aspect often brings a curious yet skeptical attitude toward life manifestations within the Planet’s spheres. Deep inside, the person strongly desires growth and flourishing, yet simultaneously perceives numerous obstacles, doubts success, and yet still awaits it, becoming deeply distressed at life’s failures and victories of stagnation, though never missing an opportunity to say: “I told you nothing good would come of these undertakings.” However, the person becomes a suppressor of life manifestations within the Planet’s spheres only at the lowest level of working with the quintile and Saturn, especially when both are strongly afflicted, as a result of deep wounds inflicted upon their vulnerable life-affirming sensitivity. Usually, this aspect softens Saturn’s rigidity, providing beneath an outward strictness and discipline a desire to preserve life within expressions of the planetary principle and to allow it room for development. When Saturn is afflicted, the person will hold overly certain and dogmatic views about precisely how this life should be, and exactly how it ought to enliven the forms in which it emerges; with a harmonious Saturn, the person will know when and how to support such life, though they will often be too lazy to do so. Here, proper development brings deep understanding of what occurs within stagnant forms (especially the most rigid and difficult ones, such as mathematical and metal structures) when life begins to emerge within them, as well as insight into the developmental prospects of their specific manifestations, and knowledge of what kind of assistance is needed by each, and what kind is undesirable (an afflicted Saturn without proper development may suffocate).
