What are Arabic Parts
Arabic Parts, or lots, are calculated points in the natal chart. Each is determined by a formula consisting of three elements, most often the Ascendant and two planets. The most well-known of these is the Pars Fortunae, the Lot of Fortune.
The method originated in Hellenistic astrology and was later developed by Arabic astrologers, from whom the name derives.
What does Pars Fortunae indicate?
Pars Fortunae is calculated from the Ascendant, Sun, and Moon and points to the area where a person can more easily achieve prosperity and a sense of inner harmony. Its position by sign and house serves as a guide for where to direct one’s efforts.
Why is the formula different for day and night births?
In daytime births, when the Sun is above the horizon, Pars Fortunae is calculated as Ascendant plus Moon minus Sun. In night births, the formula is reversed. This is a basic rule of the Hellenistic tradition, and the calculator automatically takes it into account.
Is an accurate birth time required?
Yes. Almost all parts are calculated from the Ascendant, which shifts by one degree every four minutes. Without an accurate time, their positions will be unreliable.
