What is the Davison Chart

The Davison Chart is constructed using the average date, average time, and average geographical point between the births of two people. Unlike the composite, it is a real chart of a real moment that can be calculated for a specific day and place.

The method was proposed by British astrologer Ronald Davison and is still used today to analyze relationships alongside synastry.

How does the Davison Chart differ from the composite?

The composite is a mathematical average of planetary positions from two charts and does not correspond to an actual moment in time. The Davison Chart corresponds to the true midpoint between two birth times, allowing transits and progressions to be applied to it.

What does the Davison Chart reveal?

It describes the relationship as an independent entity: its purpose, strengths, and vulnerabilities. The Ascendant shows how the couple appears to others, the Sun represents the central theme of the relationship, and the Moon reflects their emotional climate.

Is an accurate birth time required for both partners?

Yes. Since the method averages both date and time, an error in either partner’s birth time shifts the midpoint and alters the chart’s Ascendant and house cusps.
