What Are Fixed Stars in Astrology
Fixed stars are stars outside the Solar System that astrologers consider in the natal chart. The term is historical: compared to planets, they move almost imperceptibly, shifting approximately one degree every 72 years due to precession.
The classical tradition identifies about thirty of the brightest stars, including Regulus, Spica, Aldebaran, Antares, and Sirius.
How Does a Star Influence the Chart?
A star is considered when it forms a conjunction with a planet or an angle of the chart with an orb of about one degree. The closer the conjunction and the brighter the star, the more pronounced the influence.
What Is a Paranatellon?
Parans are relationships between a star and a planet based on the moments of their rising, culmination, and setting at a specific location. Unlike longitude conjunctions, parans are tied to the latitude of birth.
Is an Exact Birth Time Necessary?
For conjunctions of stars with slow-moving planets, the date is sufficient. For conjunctions with the Ascendant, Midheaven, and Moon, as well as for calculating parans, an exact time is required.
