THREE FULFILLED PREDICTIONS

Perhaps it is appropriate here to mention three astrological predictions whose authenticity is beyond doubt. Archbishop of St. Andrews, who suffered from an illness that baffled English physicians, sent in 1552 to the Continent for help, hoping to obtain the services of the mathematician-astrologer Gerolamo Cardano. After casting the prelate’s horoscope, through which his illness was diagnosed and cured, Cardano left saying: “I can cure you of your illness, but I cannot change your fate, nor prevent you from being hanged.” Eighteen years later, this priest was indeed hanged by order of a commission appointed by Mary, Queen of Scots. On his way home, passing through London, Cardano was also invited to cast the natal chart of King Edward VI.

The second example pertains to the famous prophecy of the renowned astronomer Tycho Brahe. While studying the Great Comet of 1577, Brahe concluded that “a prince would be born in the North, in Finland, who would harm Germany and perish in 1632.” Time confirmed the accuracy of this prediction. In Finland was born Prince Gustavus Adolphus, who wreaked great destruction upon Germany during the Thirty Years’ War and died, as the astronomer had foreseen, in 1632. The Encyclopædia Britannica comments on this circumstance as follows: “That this prophecy was fulfilled in all its details suggests that Tycho Brahe had certain grounds for his prediction.”

The third example is taken from Essays on Prophecies by Lord Bacon. His Lordship writes: “When I was in France, I heard from one of the physicians of the Queen that the Queen Mother, who was fond of curious speeches, had asked that a horoscope be cast for the King, her husband, under a false name; and the astrologer predicted that the King would be killed in a duel, at which the Queen laughed, thinking her husband above all challenges and duels. Yet he was indeed killed in a duel by a splinter from Montgomery’s lance, which pierced the beaver collar of his cloak.”
