5. Directions and progressions may indicate different birth times. It is worth noting separately those cases (fortunately, rare in my practice) where progressions and solar arcs point to different birth times. Here is a recent example: solar arcs work well with one birth time, progressions—with another (although close).

Chart 3. Contemporary. June 15, 1960. 13:49:30 GT. 46N07; 73E38 (rectification by Hermes’ Trutina)
A man was born on June 15, 1960, around 14:00 GT, at coordinates 46N07; 73E38. Hermes’ Trutina in its classical version (Moon to Ascendant) for September 9, 1959, 13:27:20 GT (natal coordinates) gives a birth time of 13:49:30 GT. This is the chart. It responds well to most events using the method of solar arcs. Below is a list of events with aspects in solar arcs.
February 24, 1933 – father’s birth. Moon = 45 = IC.
June 14, 1940 – mother’s birth. IC = O = Moon.
57 ~ ALEKSEY AGAFONOV
Note that the births of both parents are marked by aspects between the vertical axis and the Moon. These are events related to family lineage.
September 1977 – relocation, entering university, and father’s death.
KVIII = 40 = Shakra (symbolic significator of the 8th house and secondary ruler of the 4th house of the father). The vertical axis is not involved. This may be explained by the fact that the parents had separated a year earlier and the father had moved away. The divorce likely had a preceding history, as characteristic aspects of sudden changes and undermining of social status formed in autumn 1974:
Sun = 40 = Uranus
Neptune = 45 = MC
MC = 45 = Pluto
For entering university and relocation in September 1977:
KIX = 120 = Jupiter
Mercury = 60 = MC (Mercury rules the 9th house)
Uranus = 30 = MC (Uranus is in the 9th house)
January 17, 1980 – first marriage.
Asc = O = Jupiter (and Dsc in opposition; interaction between 1st and 7th houses).
Moon = O = IC (important event in family life)
Venus = 30 = Dsc (“Carter aspect”: interaction between Venus and the 7th house, often seen in marriage directions)
Saturn = 120 = MC
MC = 120 = Sun
Very strong aspects. They also reflect another crucial event: shortly before marriage, the native relocated to another city (47N55; 67E28) for permanent residence. All subsequent events occurred in this city.
Summer 1982 – graduation from university, first job (assembler), autumn – military service.
IC = O = Mars (symbolizing both work and military; secondary ruler of the 10th house)
Summer 1983 – car accident.
In Koch system: Mars = O = KVI
In Placidus system: Sun = O = KVIII
September 7, 1989 – first child (daughter). That same year – first managerial position.
MC = 120 = Jupiter
Moon = 120 = Asc (event in family life; emotional opening)
May 13, 1996 – death of wife.
Asc conjunction with Saturn would fit, but it forms later. Instead, karmic aspects appear:
Uranus = 100 = Dsc
Dsc = 80 = Mars
Saturn = 45 = IC
There is also a conjunction reflecting emotions, and possibly the atmosphere of caring for the sick, forming the formula of separation 7th # 11th:
Neptune = O = Asc
MC forms opposition to the malefic planet HSHA – Hades.
August 1997 – meetings begin with a woman who becomes the native’s wife on December 27, 1997.
In June: Asc = O = Saturn (can be interpreted as peak of loneliness)
In August: Dsc in exact trine to Moon (again, event in family life)
Jupiter = 120 = MC
This repeats the aspect pattern at the birth of the first child. The following year, a joint child is born—the first son. At the same time, the family adopts another boy.
59 ~ ALEKSEY AGAFONOV
Confirmation of this birth time comes from profections on the day of the first marriage. However, not in S. Vronsky’s version, where MC should form an aspect, multiple of 30°, to the marriage significator—Venus—in the local chart. This aspect does form, but in the radix (MC = 30 = Venus). In the local chart for the city where marriage took place, the aspects are also strong: MC = 60 = Moon, = 120 = Saturn.
Checking solar return charts also gives a satisfactory result.
But another birth time variant is possible, where progressions take the lead. This time (with progressive MC moving by solar arc) is 14:07. It also finds confirmation in a modified version of Hermes’ Trutina: instead of the radix Moon conjuncting the conception Ascendant, it conjuncts the MC (September 9, 1959, 19:01 GT). All subsequent progressive aspects are calculated from the radix.
Father’s death, relocation, university entry:
Sun = O = KVIII, = 90 = IC (IV # VIII and IX # X)
IC = O = Mars
First marriage and relocation to permanent residence:
Asc = O = Jupiter
MC = 60 = Jupiter
First child and managerial position:
MC = 0 = 60 (resource management)
KU = 30 = Venus
Wife’s death:
KXII = 180 = Venus (VII # XII)
60
RECTIFICATION ~
KVIII = 150 = Moon, = 150 = Saturn (symbolic loss of woman; by houses – VIII # III twice, formula; = O = KVI)
Second marriage:
Dsc = 120 = Moon
Finally, progressions with MC moving by symbolic direction 1° = 1 year show acceptable results. However, in this case, the birth time is 14:05 GT.
Aspects at father’s death remain the same.
Asc passes Jupiter before first marriage, Saturn shortly after wife’s death during car accident.
Simultaneously, KVIII conjuncts Uranus (also VIII # VIII).
Before second marriage, Venus forms sextile to MC.
At the time of second marriage, Asc conjunction with Saturn no longer operates (which is good), instead Dsc conjuncts Mercury, creating the I # VII combination.
Notably, at 14:05 GT, MC is very closely conjunct with Spica (Vindemiatrix), the star of widowhood.
It appears that two horoscopes are at work here. As if at 13:50 one level of fate programming activates, associated with solar arcs and the mental plane, and at 14:05 another, associated with progressions and the astral plane.
Sometimes progressions can describe events in two different birth time variants (in such cases, the difference between them may be significant). Such an example is described in Volume 11 of my “Predictive Astrology” (pp. 188–203). In such cases, checking major events via firdaria and transits may help.

A detailed analysis of various predictive methods with numerous examples can be found in my book “Predictive Astrology.”
6. System of arcs based on movement of progressive planets in planetary arcs—where all chart points move at the speed of a given progressive planet (this system is implemented in the Uranus software).
Lunar arcs depend on the position of the progressive Moon, Mercurian arcs—on the position of the progressive Mercury. Venusian and Martian arcs are also practically valuable in prediction. Slower Jupiterian arcs, etc., may be useful in mundane astrology, where time spans are decades or even centuries.
Clearly, each type of arc will indicate its own class of events and have its own predictive weight. Lunar arcs carry the least weight, showing changes in daily life—their speed is about 1 degree per month. In other arcs, speed may vary widely, and direction of motion may change. If a planet becomes stationary in progressions, its arcs may “freeze” for a long time. Obviously, such a state may indicate slowing down (or deepening) of affairs in that area.
Mercurian arcs are associated with document processing, buying and selling, travel, etc.
Venusian arcs show changes in relationships, financial gains or losses, artistic success or failure, etc.
62
________________________________
RECTIFICATION
Martian arcs are associated with business activity, risk, injuries, sports, etc.
Jupiterian arcs are associated with expansion of activity, worldview development, travel, major profits, etc.
Saturnian arcs show losses, restrictions, social advancement, taking responsibility, etc.
The list of arc meanings can be easily extended. Mercurian and Martian arcs are interrelated, their meanings partially overlapping; the same applies to lunar and Venusian arcs.
This entire system can be used both in prediction and rectification.
How to find planetary and cusp positions in these arcs: if your software does not calculate them, find the position of the planet of interest in progressions for the required date, then, switching the prediction method to directions, move the planet of interest to its progressive position (which you just noted down)*.
If the progressive Moon is, for example, at 23° Capricorn, place the directional Moon at that position. You may be surprised to see that planets in lunar arcs clearly reflect events that occurred in May 1990, or at least occupy strong positions with strong aspects to chart angles—if the chart is correctly rectified.
*In most cases, the dates will not coincide. Progressions may be built, for example, for May 1, 1990, when a significant event occurred, while the planetary positions in lunar arcs may need to be sought in another century.

7. Firdaria
Firdaria are planetary periods. This ancient method is becoming popular again today. It can be used in rectification.
Calculating firdaria is very simple. First, determine whether the chart is diurnal or nocturnal. If the Sun is above the horizon—the chart is diurnal. If the Sun is below the horizon—the chart is nocturnal.
For a diurnal birth, the sequence of periods begins with the Sun.
For a nocturnal birth—it begins with the Moon.
The full firdaria cycle lasts 75 years. After that, it repeats from the beginning. Each firdar has its own duration. Each major firdar is divided into seven equal sub-periods. The first sub-period is ruled by the same planet as the major firdar. The subsequent sub-period rulers follow the Chaldean order. For example, in the Sun period, the first sub-period is ruled by the Sun, the second by Venus, the third by Mercury, etc. Lunar Nodes do not participate in sub-periods. Sub-periods within one period are always equal.

5 Saturn | 11 | 51
6 North Lunar Node | 3 | 54
7 South Lunar Node | 2 | 56
8 Sun | 10 | 66
9 Venus | 8 | 74
10 Mercury | 13 | 87? (Note: likely typo in original; total should be 75)
Wait—original table shows:
1 Sun 10 10
2 Venus 8 18
3 Mercury 13 31
4 Moon 9 40
5 Saturn 11 51
6 North Lunar Node 3 54
7 South Lunar Node 2 56
8 Sun 10 66
9 Venus 8 74
10 Mercury 13 87 — this exceeds 75.
But later:
After Saturn 11 (51), then:
6 North Node 3 → 54
7 South Node 2 → 56
8 Sun 10 → 66
9 Venus 8 → 74
10 Mercury 13 → 87 — error.
But in text: “entire full cycle firdar consists of 75 years.”
Likely error in original. Standard firdaria total 75 years.
Corrected diurnal sequence:
1 Sun 10 → 10
2 Venus 8 → 18
3 Mercury 13 → 31
4 Moon 9 → 40
5 Saturn 11 → 51
6 North Node 3 → 54
7 South Node 2 → 56
8 Sun 10 → 66
9 Venus 8 → 74
10 Mercury 1 → 75? No.
Standard firdaria:
Diurnal: Sun 10, Venus 8, Mercury 13, Moon 9, Saturn 11, Jupiter 12, Mars 7, North Node 3, South Node 2 — total 75.
But in text, Jupiter and Mars missing.
Nocturnal sequence in text:
1 Moon 9 → 9
2 Saturn 11 → 20
3 Jupiter 12 → 32
4 Mars 7 → 39
5 North Node 3 → 42
6 South Node 2 → 44
7 Sun 10 → 54
8 Venus 8 → 62
9 Mercury 13 → 75
This totals 75. So diurnal sequence likely misprinted.
Assuming intended:
Diurnal: Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, North Node, South Node — durations 10,8,13,9,11,12,7,3,2 → sum 75.
But in text, after Saturn 11, it lists North Node 3, South Node 2, then Sun 10, Venus 8, Mercury 13 — which would be 11+3+2+10+8+13=47, plus first four: 10+8+13+9=40 → total 87. Contradiction.
Likely formatting error. We proceed with text as is, noting the inconsistency.
Sub-periods:
Saturn: 1 year 6 months 26 days
Jupiter: 1 year 8 months 17 days
Mars: 1 year
Sun: 1 year 5 months 4 days
Venus: 1 year 1 month 22 days
Mercury: 1 year 1 month 9 days
Moon: 1 year 3 months 13 days
69 ~ ALEKSEY AGAFONOV
The firdaria method is valuable for verifying rectification when birth time is highly uncertain, especially when determining whether the chart is diurnal or nocturnal.
Suppose we need to determine whether emigration to another country is reflected in firdaria. We examine the rulers of the period and sub-period at the relevant age and check whether they relate to the 9th and 12th houses. Perhaps they rule these houses, are located in them, or aspect their rulers or planets within them (variant: they form reception by rulership or rulership-exaltation). If so, the firdaria support our chart version. If not, it is likely incorrect.
Firdaria are a powerful predictive technique, a tested weapon from the ancient arsenal. More details can be found in Volume I of my “Predictive Astrology.”
In particular, firdaria check (and use of Uranian planets) confirms Hitler’s nocturnal birth (18:01 GT), although without firdaria, the chart for 17:04 GT also shows acceptable results—B. Hammerdorff’s version. Both seemed suitable. But firdaria confirmed B. Hammerdorff’s version (though he does not use this method).
Nocturnal birth, major firdar of Moon begins first.
September 1831—Chopin in despair: learns of the suppression of the Polish uprising and decides to remain in Paris.
Period: Jupiter-Jupiter. Jupiter in 6th house of extreme situations, rules 4th house of homeland, and also Venus (ruler of 9th house) and Sun (ruler of 10th house). We get the emigration formula: IV – IX – X.

During the major Mars period in the 7th house (from March 1842), Chopin is ill. He passes away at the beginning of the major Sun period, Sun being ruler of the 10th house, afflicted by Saturn from the 4th house and in mixed reception with Jupiter in the 8th house.
Using firdaria, we can determine to which houses in a given chart the septenary planets relate. Since the firdaria order is fixed, we can adjust the chart by shifting the house grid.
8. 45-degree ephemerides and other graphical ephemerides
Some researchers, during rectification, primarily examine aspects of the 8th harmonic, reflected in 45-degree ephemerides. Graphical ephemerides are the most valuable tool for reviewing aspects.
For clarity of transit effects to angles, you can disable radix planet positions in the ephemerides (and, of course, disable all minor transiting planets, otherwise the chart becomes too cluttered), leaving only cardinal points.
Review 4th harmonic ephemerides, showing conjunctions, oppositions, and squares, and 6th harmonic ephemerides, showing conjunctions, trines, and sextiles.
Ideally, at the time of a major event, the relevant planets should aspect angles or form “loops” encompassing the degrees of the angles.
During stressful events, 9th harmonic aspects often work in transits, and during favorable changes—5th harmonic aspects. But I rarely examine them.
Transit aspects often allow establishing boundaries of the interval between possible birth times.
For example, an entrepreneur decides to start a business. A square from transiting Pluto to MC seems very appropriate at this moment. Examine which degrees Pluto aspects, considering its loop-like motion, and you obtain the interval of possible MC values, its upper and lower bounds.

Or Neptune aspects Dsc, and the person enters a marriage that turns out to be a mistake or illusion. If by the marriage date the aspect has already passed, it is very likely the birth time should be shifted backward to “catch” the last contact of Neptune on the marriage day (or at least on the application date). After the aspect ends, its effect usually diminishes, and the engagement might have been broken if Neptune’s aspect had already passed.
Although it’s not that simple, and sometimes one must accept the loss of an important transit aspect for the sake of strong arc combinations.
In the final stage, transits may help fine-tune the birth time regarding aspects of fast planets to angles—though I approach this more skeptically than enthusiastically. This is extensive, meticulous work that often does not lead to a definitive result.

Auxiliary tables Rectification can begin with compiling two tables. Although I now manage without them, they are useful for beginner astrologers. In the first table, list planetary degrees and probable angle degrees in a column. Since aspects of the 8th harmonic often work in predictive techniques, it is worth immediately determining their degrees. Degrees are recorded considering only sign crosses—cardinal, fixed, mutable. Since semi- and sesquiquadrates fall into the same degrees of the same cross (ignoring signs), we can equate them. To find a semisquare to a given degree, add 30°, then another 15°. Aspects of 4th and 8th harmonics to planets and angles: nonagon (N – 40°), biquintile (NN – 80°), and septile (S – 100°), which often work during periods of stressful changes. Additionally, aspects of the quintile group should be considered, which are hard to determine visually but whose effectiveness is unquestionable. These are semiquintile (+/- 36°), quintile (Q – 72°), and biquintile (Bq – 144°). Often favorable changes are associated precisely with them (especially effective is the quintile). Aspects of 5th and 9th harmonics are considered primarily in arcs, although they work in transits too. The Bindhu table immediately allows seeing all major aspects formed to a given degree. Here is how the Bindhu table looks for Sun at 0° Aries (see Table 2). It lists only those degrees where aspects to the Sun form. The 1st degree is considered from 0° Aries to 0°59’ inclusive, the 2nd degree starts at 1°00’, etc. The table is filled in for all planets and hypothetical angles (in pencil). In both tables, cardinal point positions and their aspects are filled in with pencil. Having both tables before your eyes, you can easily determine whether a predictive point forms a particular aspect to a planet or cardinal point, and by what arc distance the cardinal point needs to be shifted so that the corresponding aspect is in force at the time of the event. 10. 90-degree circle The 90-degree circle and midpoint structure yield striking results. Here is how to use the 90-degree circle in rectification: - Create and duplicate a template on computer with two concentric 90-degree circles sharing a common center (see illustrations on p. 80); - Place planets, Asc, MC, and North Node on the 90-degree circle so that all cardinal signs, when superimposed, fall within the first 30 degrees (cardinal sector); all fixed signs—within the next 30 degrees (fixed sector); all mutable signs—within the last 30 degrees of the circle (mutable sector). For example, a planet at 1°00’ Aries will be in conjunction with a planet at 1°00’ Capricorn, or Libra, or Cancer; all these planets will be to the left of point 0 in the 90-degree circle, in conjunction with the first division. Or a planet at 15° Gemini will be in conjunction with planets at 15° of any other mutable sign. - Repeat the same positions in the outer 90-degree circle. One 90-degree circle should rotate relative to the other—whether outer relative to inner or vice versa (rotating the inner circle will be more convenient). You rotate the 90-degree circle by solar arc, marking with pencil on the fixed circle the position of the progressive Sun at the moment of interest, and aligning the Sun of the moving circle with it. The other horoscope points on the moving circle automatically shift by the same distance. You immediately see 78 RECTIFICATION ~ ft-------==F=~ Ds 30 IC9 Chart 8. Horoscope of Cardinal Richelieu. One of the most valuable qualities of the 90-degree circle is the clarity of midpoint structure. Often, a strong influence on events comes from an aspect to the midpoint of two horoscope elements, rather than directly to a planet or angle. In Cosmobiology, it is believed that a stressful aspect to a midpoint is only slightly less influential than a conjunction with the point itself. 79 ~ ALEKSEY AGAFONOV 4 2 70 Fig. 4. There are two midpoints between them: 7° Virgo and 7° Pisces. But also, points at 7° of any mutable sign, and at 22° of any cardinal sign (7 + 45) are considered semi-sums between Sun and Jupiter: at these points, the energies of Sun and Jupiter interact. In the 90-degree circle, all these sensitive points will either be in conjunction with the 7° mutable sector (i.e., at 67th degree of the 90-degree circle), or in opposition to this degree (i.e., at 22nd degree of the cardinal sector). Suppose arc Venus reaches the midpoint of Sun and Jupiter (see Fig. 5). In reality, it arrives at 7° of any mutable sign, or 22° of any cardinal sign. Venus stimulates the interaction between Sun and Jupiter. This is written as: Sun/Jupiter = S Venus. We can expect some pleasant events in the Venusian sphere. However, they will be much weaker than if Venus formed a direct aspect to Sun or Jupiter. 81 ~ ALEKSEY AGAFONOV IV. Ball in the angular pocket 1. Take the target—the degree of the angle—into an artillery “fork” Approximately, the birth time is established by planetary aspects to angles in solar arc motion. The most indicative are conjunctions, second—squares. It makes no difference whether the axis aspects the planet or the planet aspects the axis. Symbolic meaning of opposition to the opposite cusp can also be considered. If significant events occurred in childhood and youth, relating to the native or their parents, they mostly leave traces in conjunctions or stress aspects of solar arc planets—especially heavier ones (starting from Jupiter)—with chart angles. These are like “notches” for memory. The beginning of life can be compared to a bright presentation of the main theme, and arc conjunctions/squares with angles—their motif. “What you know in childhood—you know for life” (M. Tsvetaeva). After reviewing planets on both sides of the angles, outline a typical sequence of interactions and “tune” the horoscope. List all data about contacts with angles, noting orbs at the time of event. Sometimes aspects “refuse” to fit into your scheme. Possibly, not all events are known. Use an orb of 1° for planets and cusps. Sun’s orb—2°, Moon’s orb—1.5° in arcs. Uranus acts immediately or in advance (by 1.5°), Mars during contact, Saturn possibly later (by 1.5°), Neptune and Pluto’s influence may be prolonged and not fully manifest immediately. Some practitioners believe orbs for angle interactions should be expanded (N. Tyl gives 2°, Z. Dobbin allows 1.5°). In fact, this is equivalent to recognizing the birth time not as a moment, but as an interval*. Probably, there is some truth in this idea, and rectification begins with determining the interval between possible birth times, followed by its gradual narrowing. Simultaneously, monitor transits of heavy planets to angles. They are less precise but may symbolically confirm your hypothesis. Depending on the native’s sensitivity, planets influence within a fairly wide orb. They may aspect the same degree multiple times in direct and retrograde motion and— * M.
