5. Directions and progressions can indicate different events. Separately, it is worth noting cases (fortunately, rare in my practice) when progressions and solar arcs indicate different events. Here is a recent example. Solar arcs work well for one birth time, progressions for another (though close). 56 RECTIFICATION ~ 12AS -+–+- I 20 13 Chart 3. Contemporary. June 15, 1960. 13:49:30 GT 46N07; 73E38 (rectification by the Hermetic Trine)
A man was born on June 15, 1960, around 14 GT at a location with coordinates 46N07; 73E38. The Hermetic Trine in its classical version (Moon to Ascendant) on September 9, 1959, at 13:27:20 GT (natal coordinates) gives the event time of 13:49:30 GT. This is the chart. It responds well to most events in the solar arc method. Here is a list of events with solar arc aspects.
February 24, 1933 – birth of the father. Moon = 45 = IC.
June 14, 1940 – birth of the mother. IC = 0 = Moon.
57 ~ ALEKSEY AGAfonov
Note that the births of both parents are marked by aspects of the vertical axis and the Moon. These are events related to the family lineage.
September 1977 – relocation, enrollment in an institute, and death of the father. KVIII = 40 = Saturn (symbolic significator of the 8th house and the second ruler of the 4th house of the father). The vertical axis is not involved. This may be explained by the fact that the parents had separated a year earlier, and the father had left. The divorce likely had a backstory, as in the autumn of 1974, sharp aspects of radical changes and undermining of social status formed: Sun = 40 = Uranus, Neptune = 45 = MC, MC = 45 = Pluto.
The enrollment in the institute and relocation in September 1977 are indicated by: KIX = 120 = Jupiter, Mercury = 60 = MC (Mercury rules the 9th house), Uranus = 30 = MC (Uranus is in the 9th house).
January 17, 1980 – first marriage. Asc = 0 = Jupiter (and Dsc is in opposition to it; the 1st and 7th houses interact). Moon = 0 = IC (an important event related to the family lineage). Venus = 30 = Dsc («Carter’s aspect»: interaction of Venus and the 7th house, often seen in marriage in directions).
Saturn = 120 = MC, MC = 120 = Sun.
These are very strong aspects. They also reflect another crucial event: shortly before the marriage, the contemporary moved to another city (47N55; 67E28) to live permanently. All subsequent events took place in this city.
Summer 1982 – graduation from the institute, first job (assembler), and in the autumn – the army. IC = 0 = Mars (symbolizing both work and the army; the second ruler of the 11th house). Summer 1983 – a car accident. In the Koch system, Mars = 0 = 6th house. In the Placidus system, Sun = 0 = 8th house.
September 7, 1989 – birth of the first child (a daughter). The same year – first managerial position. MC = 120 = Jupiter. Moon = 120 = Asc (an event related to the family lineage; emotional unfolding).
May 13, 1996 – death of the wife. Here, an Asc conjunction with Saturn would fit, but it forms later. Instead, there are karmic aspects: Uranus = 100 = Dsc, Dsc = 80 = Mars, and Saturn = 45 = IC. There is also a conjunction reflecting emotions, as well as, presumably, the circumstances of caring for the sick, creating a separation formula 7th # 11th: Neptune = 0 = Asc. The MC forms an opposition to the malefic planet Hades.
In August 1997, meetings began with a woman who became the contemporary’s wife on December 27, 1997. In June, Asc = 0 = Saturn (which can be interpreted as the peak of loneliness), and in August, Dsc is in an exact trine to the Moon (another event related to the family lineage). Jupiter = 120 = MC. This echoes the aspects at the birth of the first child. The following year, a joint child was born – the first son. At the same time, the family adopted another boy.
59 ~ ALEKSEY AGAfonov
Confirmation of this event time is also obtained through profections on the day of the first marriage. However, not in the version of S. Vronsky, according to which the MC should form an aspect, a multiple of 30 degrees, to the marriage significator (in this case, Venus) in the local chart. This aspect does form, but in the radix (MC = 30 = Venus). And in the local chart for the city where the marriage took place, the profections are also strong: MC = 60 = Moon, = 120 = Saturn.
Checking with solar return charts also yields a good result.
However, another version of the event time is possible, in which progressions play the leading role. This time (with the progressed MC moving by solar arc) is 14:07. It also finds confirmation in a peculiar version of the Hermetic Trine: in the radix, the Moon does not conjunct the Ascendant of conception, but the MC (September 9, 1959, at 19:01 GT). Further, all progressed aspects follow the radix.
Death of the father, relocation, enrollment in university: Sun = 0 = 8th house, = 90 = IC (4th # 8th and 9th # 10th), IC = 0 = Mars.
First marriage and relocation to a permanent place of residence: Asc = 0 = Jupiter, MC = 60 = Jupiter.
Birth of the first child and first managerial position: MC = 0 = 60 (resource management), 11th house cusp = 30 = Venus.
Death of the wife: 5th house cusp = 180 = Venus (6th # 12th), 8th house cusp = 150 = Moon, = 150 = Saturn (symbolically, the loss of a woman; by houses – 3rd house # North Node twice, a formula; = 0 = 6th house).
Second marriage: Dsc = 120 = Moon.
Finally, good results are shown by progressions with the MC moving by symbolic direction (1 degree = 1 year). However, the event time in this case is 14:05 GT. The aspects during the father’s death are the same. The Ascendant passes Jupiter before the first marriage, and Saturn shortly after the wife’s death during a car accident. At the same time, the 8th house cusp conjuncts Uranus (also 8th # 3rd).
By the time of the second marriage, Venus forms a sextile to the MC. At the moment of the second marriage, the Ascendant conjunction with Saturn is no longer in effect (which is good), while the Descendant conjuncts Mercury, creating a 1st # 7th combination.
Notably, for the event time of 14:05, the MC has a very tight orb with Vindemiatrix, the star of widowhood. It seems that two horoscopes are at work here. As if at 13:50, one level of fate programming was activated, associated with solar arcs and the mental plane, and at 14:05, another, linked to progressions and the astral plane.
Sometimes progressions can describe events in two different versions of the event time (in such cases, the difference between them can be significant). Such an example is described in Volume 11 of my “Predictive Astrology” (pp. 188-203). In such cases, checking key events with firdaria and transits can help.

A detailed analysis of the work of various predictive methods with many examples can be found in my book “Predictive Astrology.”
6. The system of arcs based on the movement of progressed planets in planetary arcs shifts all chart points at the speed of a particular progressed planet (the system is implemented in the Uranus program). Lunar arcs depend on the position of the progressed Moon, Mercurian arcs on the position of progressed Mercury; Venusian and Martian arcs are also practically valuable in forecasting. Slower Jupiterian and other arcs can be useful in mundane astrology, where the count goes in decades or even centuries. Naturally, each type of arc will indicate its own class of events and have its own, so to speak, predictive weight.
Lunar arcs have the least weight, showing changes in daily life; the speed of the Moon’s arc is approximately 1 degree per month. In other arcs, the speed can vary widely, and the direction of movement can change. If a planet becomes stationary in progressions, its arcs can «freeze» for a long time. Such a state likely indicates a slowdown (or deepening) of matters in the corresponding sphere.
Mercurian arcs are associated with document processing, purchases and sales, travel, etc. Venusian arcs indicate changes in relationships, financial gains or losses, artistic success or failure, etc.
62 ________________________________ R~E~K~T~I~F~I~K~A~T~S~I~Y~A~
Martian arcs are linked to business activity, risk, injuries, sports, etc. Jupiterian arcs are associated with expansion of activity, development of worldview, travel, large profits, etc. Saturnian arcs show losses, restrictions, advancement in society, taking on responsibility, etc.
The list of arc meanings can be easily extended. Mercurian and Martian arcs are interconnected, and their meanings partially overlap; the same applies to lunar and Venusian arcs.
This entire system can be used both in forecasting and in rectification. How to find the positions of planets and cusps in these arcs: if your program does not calculate them, find the position of the planet you are interested in in progressions for the date you need, and then, switching the forecasting method to directions, move the planet you are interested in to its progressive position (which you have just memorized) *. If the progressed Moon is, for example, at 23° Capricorn, place the directed Moon in this position. You may be surprised to see that planets in lunar arcs vividly describe events that happened to you in May 1990, or at least occupy strong positions with strong aspects to the angles of the chart—if it is correctly rectified.
Example: reflection of events in different arcs
a) Marriage and childbirth (Chart 4)
Marriage on 25 November 1977.
* In most cases, the dates will not match. Progressions may be calculated, for example, for 1 May 1990, when a significant event occurred for you, but you will have to look for the positions of planets in lunar arcs in some other century.

Martian arcs are especially valuable in forecasting extreme situations, since Mars itself brings risk and accidents, and also rules the 8th house in this chart. Trines symbolize Saint-Exupéry’s readiness to start something new, unexpected, that expands prospects, but illusions and mistakes are also possible. However, death does not yet threaten him.

In Mercurian arcs, Midheaven is in conjunction with Mars and in opposition to Jupiter, Neptune is in square to the 2nd/8th house axis. Sun and Pluto are in karmic aspects to the 8th house. Sun is in novile to Mars, Mercury is on the 12th house cusp in novile to Neptune (Chart 6-1).
A. Saint-Exupéry died in an aviation catastrophe (Mars) due to fog, careless flight preparation, and an incorrect weather forecast (Neptune).
Warning: apparently, the birth of a child does not always create precise aspects in lunar arcs.
7. Firdaria
Firdaria are planetary periods. This ancient method is becoming popular again today. It can also be used in rectification. Calculating Firdaria is very simple. First, determine whether the chart is diurnal or nocturnal. If the Sun is above the horizon—the chart is diurnal. If the Sun is below the horizon—the chart is nocturnal.
In a diurnal birth, the sequence of periods begins with the Sun. In a nocturnal birth, it begins with the Moon. The full Firdaria cycle lasts 75 years. After that, it starts again.
Each Firdaria has its own duration. Each of the major Firdarias is divided into seven equal sub-periods. The first sub-period is governed by the same planet as the major Firdaria. The next rulers of the sub-period correspond to the Chaldean order. For example, in the Sun period, the first sub-period is governed by the Sun, the second by Venus, the third by Mercury, and so on. The Lunar Nodes do not participate in sub-periods.
The sub-periods of one period are always equal.

The Firdaria method is valuable for verifying rectification when there is great uncertainty about the birth time, especially if it is necessary to determine whether the chart is diurnal or nocturnal. Suppose you need to clarify whether a move to another country is reflected in the Firdaria. We examine the rulers of the period and sub-period for the corresponding age and determine whether they relate to the 9th and 10th houses. Perhaps they rule these houses, are located in them, or aspect the rulers of these houses or planets in them (option: they are in reception with them by rulership or exaltation rulership). If so, the Firdaria supports our version of the chart. If not, it is most likely incorrect.
Firdaria is a powerful predictive technique, a time-tested weapon from the ancient arsenal. You can read more about them in Volume I of my “Predictive Astrology.” In particular, verification using Firdaria (and the use of Uranian planets) confirms the nocturnal birth of Hitler (18.01 GT), although, if Firdaria are not considered, the chart for 17.04 GT shows good results. B. Hamerslag believed that both could fit. However, Firdaria confirmed the version of B. Hamerslag (even though he did not use this method).
Nocturnal birth, the major Firdaria of the Moon begins.
September 1831. Chopin in grief: he learns of the suppression of the Polish uprising and decides to remain in Paris. Period: Jupiter-Jupiter. Jupiter is in the 8th house of extreme situations, rules the 4th house of the homeland, as well as Venus, the ruler of the 9th house, and the Sun, the ruler of the 10th house. We obtain the formula of emigration: 4 – 9 – 10.
In June 1838, Chopin meets George Sand. Period: Jupiter (ruler of Descendant) – Mercury (ruler of Ascendant and Midheaven). We obtain the conjunction of union 1 – 7 – 10.
Then the Moon sub-period in the 5th house begins. During the major Mars period in the 7th house (from March 1842), Chopin falls ill. He leaves life at the beginning of the major Sun period, the ruler of the 10th house, afflicted by Saturn from the 4th house and in mixed reception with Jupiter in the 8th house.
With the help of Firdaria, one can determine to which houses the septenary planets relate in a given chart. Since the order of Firdaria is unchanged, we can adjust the chart by shifting the house grid.
8. 45-degree and other graphic ephemerides
Some researchers, when rectifying charts, primarily look at the aspects of the 8th harmonic, reflected in 45-degree ephemerides. Graphic ephemerides are the most valuable tool for examining aspects. For clarity in observing the action of transits to the angles, you can disable the positions of the natal planets in the ephemeris (and, of course, disable all fast transiting planets, otherwise the chart will become too cluttered), leaving only the cardinal points. Examine the 4th harmonic ephemeris, which shows conjunctions, oppositions, and squares, and the 6th harmonic ephemeris, which shows conjunctions, trines, and sextiles. It is desirable that at the moment of an important event, the corresponding planets aspect the angles or form “loops” by capturing the degrees of the angles. During periods of stressful events, transit aspects of the 9th harmonic often come into play, while periods of favorable changes involve aspects of the 5th harmonic. However, I rarely consider these. Transit aspects often allow you to establish the boundaries of the interval between possible rectification values. For example, an entrepreneur decides to start their own business. A square of transiting Pluto to the Midheaven seems very fitting at this moment. Examine which degrees Pluto aspects, considering its retrograde motion, and you will obtain an interval of possible MC values—its upper and lower limits.
Or Neptune aspects the Descendant, and a person enters into a marriage that turns out to be a mistake or an illusion. If by the time of the marriage the aspect has already passed, it is very likely that the rectification value should be shifted backward to “catch” the last contact of Neptune on the day of the marriage (or at least at the time of filing the application). After the aspect ends, its effect usually diminishes, and the engagement could have been broken if Neptune’s aspect had already passed. Although it is not that simple, and sometimes one must reconcile the loss of an important transit aspect in favor of strong arc combinations. In the final stage of work, transits can be useful for refining the rectification value regarding aspects of fast planets to the angles—though I approach this more skeptically than enthusiastically. This is a laborious and meticulous process that often does not yield an unambiguous result.

Auxiliary Tables
Rectification can begin with compiling two tables. Although today I manage without them, they are useful for beginner astrologers. In the first table, list in a column the degrees of the planets and the likely degrees of the angles. Since aspects of the 8th harmonic often work in predictive techniques, it is worth immediately determining their degrees. The degrees are recorded considering only the crosses of the signs—cardinal, fixed, mutable. Since semi-squares and sesquiquadrates fall into the same degrees of the same cross (without considering the signs), we can equate them to each other. To find the semi-square to a given degree, add 30° to it, and then another 15°. The resulting degree (ignoring the sign) will be the same for all semi-squares and sesquiquadrates to 0° Aries. The table might look like this (see Table 1).
The well-known Bindhu table shows in which degree which aspects are formed to the degrees of planets and cardinal points. Here, we will also consider aspects of the 4th and 8th harmonics, as well as
Table 1
Sun 0° Aries 30° Cardinal
Moon 5° Fixed 15° 20° Mutable 15°
Mercury 7° Mutable 00° 22° Cardinal 00°

1. Aspects of the 4th and 8th harmonics to planets and angles: nonagon (N — 40°), binonagon (NN — 80°), and centagon (S — 100°), which often manifest during periods of stressful changes. Additionally, it is worth considering aspects of the quintile group, which are difficult to determine visually but whose effectiveness is undeniable. These include the semi-quintile (+ — 36°), quintile (Q — 72°), and biquintile (Bq — 144°). Favorable changes are often associated precisely with them (the quintile is especially effective). Aspects of the 5th and 9th harmonics are primarily considered in arcs, though they also operate in transits.
The Bindhu table immediately allows you to see all the main aspects formed to a given degree. Below is the Bindhu table for the Sun at 0° Aries (see Table 2). Here, all degrees are listed in full, showing only those in which aspects to the Sun are formed.
The 1st degree is considered from 0° Aries to 0°59′ inclusive, the 2nd degree begins at 1°00′, and so on.

Both tables should be filled in with the positions of the planets and hypothetical angles (in pencil). In both tables, the positions of the cardinal points and their aspectation are also filled in with pencil. With both tables in front of you, it will be easy to determine whether the prognostic point forms a particular aspect to a planet or cardinal point, and by what arc distance you need to shift the cardinal point so that the corresponding aspect is in effect at the moment of the event.
10. The 90-Degree Circle
The 90-degree circle and the structure of midpoints yield striking results. Not all astrological programs provide a list of tense aspects to midpoints, draw the midpoint tree, and the 90-degree circle.
Many programs can construct harmonic charts, but the 90-degree circle is somewhat more convenient than the 4th harmonic chart, with which it is closely related. Here’s how to use the 90-degree circle in rectification:
- Create and reproduce on a computer a template with two concentric 90-degree circles with a common center (see figures on p. 80);
- Place the planets, Ascendant, Midheaven, and North Node on the 90-degree circle (in cosmobiology, it is believed that other cusps are not significant; however, you can add the positions of the cusps that interest you) so that all cardinal signs, overlapping one another, are located in the first 30 degrees (cardinal sector); all fixed signs are in the next 30 degrees (fixed sector); and all mutable signs are in the last 30 degrees of the circle (mutable sector). For example, a planet at 1°00′ Aries will be in conjunction with a planet at 1°00′ Capricorn, Libra, or Cancer; all these planets will be located to the left of the 0° point on the 90-degree circle in conjunction with the first division. Or a planet at 15° Gemini will be in conjunction with planets at 15° of any other mutable sign.
- Repeat the same positions on the outer 90-degree circle. One 90-degree circle should rotate relative to the other—it doesn’t matter whether the outer circle rotates relative to the inner one or vice versa (it will be more convenient for you to rotate the inner circle). Rotate the 90-degree circle by the solar arc, marking on the fixed circle with a pencil the position of the progressed Sun at the moment of interest to you, and aligning it with the Sun on the moving circle. The other points of the horoscope on the moving circle will automatically advance by the same distance. You will immediately see squares, oppositions, and conjunctions in solar arcs—all of them will appear as conjunctions. Semi-squares and sesquiquadrates will appear as oppositions (compare Richelieu’s chart in the regular and 90-degree formats in Fig. 4).
One of the most valuable qualities of the 90-degree circle is the clarity of the midpoint structure. Often, a strong influence on events is exerted by an aspect to the midpoint of two elements of the horoscope, but not directly to a planet or angle. In cosmobiology, it is considered that a tense aspect to a midpoint is almost as influential as a conjunction with the midpoint itself.
Interaction of SBeHepbl with the Sun/Jupiter midpoint at 80
REKTIFICATION ~ Example a) Let the Sun be at 5° Gemini, and Jupiter at 9° Sagittarius. There are two midpoints between them: 7° Virgo and 7° Pisces. However, points at 7° of any mutable sign, as well as at 22° of any cardinal sign (7 + 45), are considered half-sums between the Sun and Jupiter: at these points, the energies of the Sun and Jupiter interact. In the 90-degree circle, all these sensitive points will either be in conjunction with the 7° mutable sector (i.e., at the 67th degree of the 90-degree circle), or in opposition to that degree (i.e., at the 22nd degree of the cardinal sector). Suppose an arc Venus falls on the Sun/Jupiter midpoint (see Fig. 5). In reality, it arrives at 7° of any mutable sign, or 22° of any cardinal sign. Venus stimulates the interaction between the Sun and Jupiter. This is recorded as: Sun/Jupiter = S Venus. We can expect some pleasant events in the Venusian sphere. However, they will be much less pronounced than if Venus formed a direct aspect to the Sun or Jupiter.

IV. The ball in the angular arc
1. Take the target — the degree of the angle — in an artillery “fork”
In the first approximation, rectification is established by the aspects of planets to the angles by solar arcs. The most indicative are conjunctions, followed by squares. It makes no difference whether the axis aspects a planet or the planet aspects the axis. The symbolic significance of opposition to the opposite cusp can also be considered.
If significant events occurred in childhood and youth concerning the native or their parents, they mostly leave a mark in the conjunctions or stressful aspects of solar arcs of planets, primarily the heavy ones (starting from Jupiter), to the angles of the chart. These are like “notches” for memory. The beginning of life can be compared to the vivid performance of the main theme, and the arc conjunctions/squares to the angles are its motif. “What you know in childhood — you know for life” (M. Tsvetaeva).
Having examined the planets on both sides of the angles, outline a tentative sequence of interactions and “tune” the horoscope. Record all data on contacts with the angles, marking the orb at the moment of the event. Sometimes it happens that the aspects “do not want” to fit into your scheme. Perhaps you are not aware of all the events. Take an orb of 1° for planets and cusps. The Sun’s orb is 2°, the Moon’s orb is 1.5° in arcs. Uranus acts immediately or in advance (by 1.5°), Mars during contact, Saturn possibly later (by 1.5°), the influence of Neptune and Pluto can be prolonged and not fully manifest immediately. Some practitioners believe it is worth expanding the orbs for interactions with the angles (N. Till gives an orb of 2°, Z. Dobbins allows 1.5°). Essentially, this is the same as recognizing the birth time not as a moment, but as an interval*. Probably, there is some truth in this idea, and rectification begins with defining the interval between possible birth times, followed by its gradual narrowing. Simultaneously, monitor the transits of heavy planets to the angles. They are less precise but can symbolically confirm your hypothesis.
Depending on the native’s sensitivity, planets influence within a fairly wide orb. They can aspect the same degree multiple times in direct and retrograde motion and action.
* M. Levin writes that “there are several moments that can be distinguished as the moment of birth… With the first breath, the air, informational birth occurs. At this moment, an imprint of the cosmic structure is formed in the human’s information field. When emerging into the light, the child experiences cosmic influence [subtle energies]”. This is the fiery birth. “Earthly birth is the moment when the newborn’s umbilical cord is cut; water birth is the moment of awakening sensations (these moments usually coincide). Typically, the interval between air and fiery birth is no more than five minutes. If there is a large gap, it is necessary to construct two different charts… Most often, the natal chart is drawn up at the moment of the first breath with an accuracy of up to four minutes. This is a quantum of astrological time [emphasis ours.]”. — See: Levin M. Educational Manual on Astrology.
Nevertheless, it is desirable (though not always achievable) that at the moment of the event, the “required” transiting planet has not yet left the last transit contact with the angle.

84 REKTIFICATION ~ 13 25 As -+—-+- 8 Chart
Approximate chart. 30.05.1966. 02.00 GMT 55N40; 37E32
We build an approximate chart at 2:00 GMT
Strong 12th house — mysticism, work in the studio, restrictions in life. Moon in Libra in the 5th house — the need to be in the spotlight, to participate in exhibitions, the need for admirers and an audience. Ascendant in Gemini is strongly felt in communication.
We build arcs. The victory at the international competition in 1978 is very important: it is the first uplift of self-esteem, as if a dawn. Here, solar symbolism is appropriate. But in our chart at that time, S Mercury was rising to the Ascendant.

29X1 Chart 9-1. Contemporary. Rectified chart. 30.05.1966. 01:42 GMT 55N40; 37E32
Having checked other events, we see that they are also reflected, though not vividly. The angles need to be shifted. Pr Sun in 1978 (let’s take December 1 to fall in the middle of the 13th year of her life) at 20°07′ Gemini. Let’s place the Ascendant here. This gives a rectified time of 1:44 GMT.
By the time of the victory, Pr Sun is on the Ascendant, and S MC is in square to Neptune.
At the start of work (1983), S 12th house cusp (studio) conjuncts the Sun.
When entering the art institute, S MC is in sextile to Venus.
However, the chain of events No. 6 (miraculous rescue in a car accident, disappointment in a loved one, birth of a child) symbolically corresponds to the passage of arc Neptune to the Descendant, and the house renovation (No. 8) corresponds to S Jupiter on the IC.
Therefore, we shift the rectified time to 1:42 GMT. This is the result of rectification by solar arcs.
In 1998, when she turned to religion, S Neptune had already left the Descendant. But S Ascendant formed a trine to Neptune, and S IC — a quintile.
2. When a symbolically strong aspect lags or precedes the event
First of all — do not rush to abandon your version of rectification. It is not always possible to catch all symbolically strong aspects in a retro-prognosis. Stressful aspects often tend to accumulate over several years, surrounding a fateful event. On the other hand, if these are aspects of the luminaries, the orbs can be expanded. Regarding MC conjunctions, they mark long periods of a certain nature, which can last not two years, but more (see the horoscope of A. de Saint-Exupéry).
