Mercury quincunx: Every word has its true meaning. This aspect imparts a cosmic direction to thoughts in the areas of the Planet, but this means not only an interest in science fiction, but also certain difficulties with earthly ways of understanding, which can bring the person many minor inconveniences, as the usual, socially accepted way of thinking will seem to him boring, insufficient, and unsatisfying. His own thoughts and reflections may seem to the person objective and witty, sometimes even an absolute universal truth, but in reality they will most often turn out to be an eclectic mixture of weak earthly reasoning with an unmastered cosmic mind, from which extracting rational or healthy mystical seeds will be quite difficult. During periods of strong activation of the quincunx, the person will experience an inhuman flow of thoughts and may either fear them or, conversely, welcome them, depending on the major aspects of the quincunx and the chart as a whole, but learning to adapt to the cosmic nature of one’s thoughts and constructively relate them to earthly circumstances will be essential. If Mercury (and the chart in general) is afflicted, this may even lead to personality dissociation, delusions of cosmic grandeur, or persecution mania. Working through this aspect requires, first, abandoning anthropocentric and geocentric views of the Planet’s spheres and developing a cosmic ethics within them, and second, carefully aligning cosmic-oriented thinking with earthly concerns—a task that will not be simple, but ultimately will yield extraordinary creative abilities and a cosmic orientation. Chiron quincunx: One should wash one’s hands before playing with words. This aspect bestows in the Planet’s areas a peculiar sense of humor with a cosmic undertone; indeed, viewing earthly relationships from a cosmic perspective inherently provides ample cause for genuine laughter (or equally genuine tears). At a low level, the aspect manifests as the person constantly shifting in the Planet’s areas between earthly and cosmic viewpoints and back again, throwing their psyche into chaos and turning constructive progress into wandering through blind alleys; each such episode will be brief, yet the person fails to find a satisfactory behavioral pattern, and, most importantly, cannot understand the meaning of the difficulties arising, their general origin, or cause. The karmic task of this aspect is to discover in the Planet’s areas an unexpected way of perception that reconciles cosmic and earthly karma, thereby opening previously blocked developmental paths that seemed dead for many years. For example, the Chiron-Pluto quincunx, when properly worked through, may enable one to find a channel of cosmic purification acceptable from the standpoint of earthly karma—relatively painless and not creating great tension or karmic knots—but for this, the person must first attain such a level of mastery over their subconscious and its purity as Pluto demands. At the intermediate level, this quincunx produces black humor with a cosmic tint and an underlying backdrop of utter hopelessness, which one must learn to overcome and transform in order to avoid falling into the dead end of nihilistic black teachings.
