Mercury quintile: Mental flourishing hinders the blossoming of thought. This aspect grants in the areas of the Planet liveliness of mind and speech, which, if Mercury is afflicted, can cost the person very dearly, as their words may provoke sharply negative reactions from more backward forms. At a higher level, this is the aspect of the satirist; with major harmonious aspects to Mercury — the humorist, who may not be particularly humane in expression (“for a sharp word, won’t spare even one’s father”) — this is how quintile differs from decile. Affliction of Mercury brings difficulties in adequately verbalizing the natural liveliness of thought, which will manifest in the person in the areas of the Planet; expressed thoughts will initially appear inappropriate or outright foolish, though sometimes unconventional and amusing, which the person will find hard to bear, even if they don’t necessarily show it. If the Planet itself is also afflicted, creating difficulties in its expression, the quintile will carry a heavy burden, and either the person adapts their lively mind to difficult Planetary issues and learns to resolve them, or their intellect loses inventiveness, freshness, and natural talent fades. In the harmonious variant, this quintile bestows great mental abilities in the areas of the Planet — when the person chooses to apply them, ingenuity and constructive thinking emerge, but also a general passivity that will gradually drown them out. Jupiter quintile: A great number of locust species will not confuse the truly faithful. In the harmonious variant, this is an exceptionally life-affirming aspect: in the areas of the Planet, the person will feel breadth and a great quantity of life expressions, though not necessarily of the highest quality. At a lower level, there will be a tendency to consume them; for example, harmonious Jupiter-Venus quintile produces a lover of life with an erotic emphasis, whose charm is very difficult for the opposite sex to resist. Affliction of Jupiter at a low level brings, in the area of the Planet, life expressions that may disturb those around, but the person, absorbed in themselves, often doesn’t notice this. Here, life expressions will be numerous, but they will grossly fail to correspond to the needs of the environment and the forms in which they developed, potentially leading to serious troubles, whose karmic meaning for the person lies in realizing that when opening possibilities for life expressions — both for others and for oneself — one should care about how needed and suitable they are: Jupiter demands this from the person automatically, yet requires special effort. Proper integration brings in the areas of the Planet a broad and powerful life current, support for the development of many life forms, and the ability to revive seemingly hopelessly dead forms doomed to destruction. In the harmonious variant, without integration, the person will either feed many parasites with their vitality, or eventually become one of them.
