Practices for the Retrograde Mercury Period

During Mercury retrograde, it is beneficial to engage in verbal and visual practices, participate in associative games—all to bring our subconscious to the surface of our consciousness. As the saying goes, the puzzle falls into place. It is also a good time to rid ourselves of misunderstandings and inaccuracies in our perception of what is happening to us and around us.

When Mercury returns in Cancer, emotions become especially favorable. Keeping a daily emotional journal is particularly effective—naming what you feel, describing your sensations and experiences, and exploring possible reasons for them. Write as much as you like until you feel comfortable and at ease. If these are old grievances or painful experiences, it is better to set aside 7–14 days for revisiting them daily, even if you don’t feel like it. Writing letters of forgiveness to your parents is especially powerful during this time. This is usually a lengthy practice that may last 21–40 days. Each day, write a page expressing forgiveness, gratitude, and declarations of love to one of your parents. Be prepared—this is not an easy process, but for it to be effective, a conscious approach is essential.

Choose what resonates with you now to make the most of this time. The days just before and on the day of the Solar Eclipse on June 21 are particularly potent for any practice.
