What is rectification
Rectification is a procedure for refining the birth time using astrological methods. It is one of the most complex branches of astrology, requiring the astrologer to have high qualifications and deep knowledge of predictive techniques.
An accurate birth time is critically important for a natal chart. Even a 4-minute difference shifts the Ascendant by 1 degree, and a 2-hour difference can change the Ascendant sign and the entire house system.
When rectification is needed
Time is completely unknown
If the birth certificate does not specify the time and relatives cannot remember it, rectification is essential to construct a complete natal chart. You can analyze planets in signs, but without houses, the picture remains incomplete.
Time is approximate
“Some time in the morning,” “after lunch,” “late in the evening” — these are typical responses. The difference between “morning” (6:00–12:00) can span 3 Ascendant signs. Rectification narrows this range down to minutes.
Time is recorded but questionable
In Soviet-era maternity hospitals, time was often rounded to the nearest quarter hour or recorded approximately. If your chart “doesn’t work” (predictions fail to materialize, descriptions don’t resonate), the time may be inaccurate.
How rectification works
Key events method
The most common method. The astrologer takes 15–20 of the most significant events in your life with exact dates and checks which birth time most accurately describes these events through transits and progressions.
What events are needed:
- Marriage / divorce (exact dates)
- Birth of children
- Job changes, career advancements
- Moves
- Serious illnesses or surgeries
- Death of loved ones
- Accidents, injuries
- Start and end of important relationships
- Significant financial changes
Primary directions method
One of the oldest methods, based on the movement of the Midheaven (1 degree ≈ 1 year of life). It requires high precision but yields the most reliable results.
Solar returns and transits
The astrologer checks which birth time most accurately reflects past solar returns and key transits in relation to real-life events.
What is needed for rectification
- Approximate time range — the narrower, the more accurate the result. “In the morning” is better than “I don’t know.”
- List of events — at least 10 key events with exact dates (preferably including approximate times).
- Date of birth — full (day, month, year).
- Place of birth — city.
- Your photo — appearance correlates with the Ascendant, serving as an additional verification tool.
How long does rectification take
From a few hours to several days of the astrologer’s work, depending on the width of the time range and the number of events. It is one of the most labor-intensive astrological procedures, so it usually costs more than a standard consultation.
Accuracy of rectification
An experienced astrologer can refine the time to within 2–5 minutes. This is sufficient to construct an accurate chart with the correct Ascendant and house system. Absolute precision to the second is unattainable and unnecessary for practical work.
Order rectification
If you don’t know your exact birth time, order a consultation with rectification at Astro Way. Prepare a list of key events with dates — this is the primary material for the astrologer’s work.
