Sun quintile: As the Lord awakens life within a person, He cares not only for the individual. Initiatives arising in the person within the spheres of the Planet will attract through their freshness and novelty, proving especially valuable in situations of stagnation and inertia (it is important, however, to understand that these initiatives may not necessarily arise within the Planet’s spheres, since the quintile is a minor aspect). If the Sun is afflicted, these initiatives will clash too sharply with established stereotypes, and the person, encountering prevailing resistance from the environment, may sincerely suffer, feeling how their life and sincerity are being extracted and trampled underfoot—yet most often with substantial justification: they are perceived as inadequate or outright hostile by the environment. A harmonious Sun, on the contrary, brings exceptionally appealing expressions within the Planet’s sphere, and life itself seems to smile upon the individual; others find their initiatives interesting, and they are capable, if they wish, of revitalizing other people and circumstances within the Planet’s domains—though this will encounter great difficulties if the Planet is afflicted. If both the Sun and the Planet are well-placed, and harmonious aspects are not adequately worked through, they may ultimately dry out the vitality of the quintile through laziness and boredom; the frustration of the quintile may then set vitality as a condition for survival, giving the person the strongest impulse for its activation and development. Mars quintile: Manifest life force stands in inverse relation to its evolutionary level. At a low level and when Mars is afflicted, this aspect (especially with Mars in the 8th house) may produce sadistic pleasure from the suffering of a living being parting with life; but these are extreme cases, and usually the quintile of Mars still somewhat softens its aggression, making the person actively interested in specific expressions of vital activity and inclined toward energetic overcoming of backward external and internal states within these spheres. A prominent quintile of Mars to the Moon or Sun may generate a constant interest in biology; if Mars or the Planet is in the 6th or 12th house, activity in animal protection is possible, and so forth. Frustration of the quintile brings clumsy personal expressions of vitality and external blows against it, the lack of processing of which leads to pathological complexes. For example, the Mars-Saturn quintile gives a person at a medium level of development a sense of inability to harm any living being, along with personal vulnerability to external aggression—yet still considerably less than the person perceives, and far less than, for instance, with a square from Mars to Saturn. The quintile is nonetheless a harmonious aspect, and if not strongly afflicted, it provides a certain protection to the person, at least when they feel and act as a defender of life. At a low level, this aspect inclines toward a primitive understanding of life manifestations, primarily as food-gathering and sexual instincts; at a high level, the capacity emerges for subtle support of life expressions and their profound penetration into difficult, backward forms.
