Saturn-Uranus Semi-Square
(Transit Saturn → Natal Uranus)

Saturn’s semi-square: When deeply drilling the well of the inner world, instead of a fountain of spirituality, oil may gush forth. This aspect is not as harsh as Saturn’s square, but more insidious, since it gives a person the feeling of deep penetration into the areas ruled by the planet, but this depth is largely illusory, while the dogmatism of the methods used to achieve it is entirely real. For example, the Saturn-Mercury semi-square produces a person who always knows how things should be, especially in areas ruled by Mercury; here, his thinking is indirect, dogmatic, and unshakable, and it is practically impossible to demonstrate to him his limitations. The Saturn-Pluto semi-square, on the contrary, produces a person who knows how things should not be and knows exactly how to destroy them, having no doubts whatsoever—especially at a lower level—about this matter. As long as this person remains ego-centered, the planet’s sphere remains alive and inaccessible to him and may even cause irritation, as it does not fit within established boundaries; in reality, the person mutilates it, although he believes that everything he does (structuring, rationally limiting, wisely guiding onto the true path) serves it exclusively for its benefit. If Saturn is afflicted, this semi-square can inflict deep emotional wounds, but their source—the excessively rigid interaction with the planet’s spheres—will long remain unclear or obscure. Here, working through the aspect requires great self-sacrifice and courageous deepening into the planet’s spheres through the eyes of others and in their interests, precisely when the person himself has long considered everything clear and obvious; yet only when he sees the planet through the eyes of others, through the prism of their problems, and helps resolve them, can the person create something truly valuable, constructive, and reliable. Uranus’ semi-square: Real difficulties begin when a person ceases to satisfy his own concept. At a high level of integration, this aspect grants in the planet’s sphere inventiveness in assembling structures from ready-made blocks, and the person will receive the most unexpected and sometimes brilliant ideas, but ultimately the house he designs and builds will be comfortable and cozy only for other people, provided he carefully considers their wishes, while from his own point of view, the house will still seem lifeless, albeit original in construction. For example, a person with a Moon-Uranus semi-square and Uranus in the 6th house may devise an excellent system of physical exercises or techniques of self-control, relaxation, etc., which will produce only an external, superficial effect for himself, but will prove deeply alive and meaningful for others, and it is precisely their response he should orient himself toward. At a low level, this aspect produces in the planet’s spheres fixation on rigid whims and caprices, which the person cannot explain but considers obligatory, often harming both those around him and himself. Such signs should be noted, but correctly interpreting them will be difficult; there is a particular danger, especially when the semi-square is afflicted, of dogmatic and straightforward interpretations escalating into obsession.
