Saturn – Chiron Sesquiquadrate
(Transit. Saturn → Natal Chiron)
Avelom Podvodny. Aspects
Saturn’s sesquiquadrate: If the wheel of fortune has gotten stuck in a ditch, the cross of fate can be carried on one’s back. This aspect brings into the planet’s spheres obstacles similar to shackles: walking is possible, but difficult. The person, however, does not always feel them (as with Saturn’s square), and sometimes, additionally, develops a peculiarly awkward manner of moving—neither elegant nor graceful, yet mostly acceptable. If this becomes habitual, it grows highly stable, and the individual tends to view others endowed with unnecessary and even harmful freedom with skepticism: a steam hammer has only one degree of freedom (up and down), yet works so effectively it’s a joy to behold, flattening even a ram’s horn into a pancake. Subconsciously, though, the person feels strong constraints within the planet’s spheres, forcing them onto an extremely narrow track in interaction with the external world, and may develop deep-seated feelings of inferiority, which they attempt to repress into the subconscious. In inner life, they seek but long fail to find a path toward deep mastery of the planet’s spheres, since the rigid framework they initially possess allows movement only along very crude, predetermined routes, as if blocking subtlety. Here, proper work transforms the dog’s harsh leash into the flexible mind of a wise sage who perceives the course and branches of karma even in seemingly hopeless situations—but this requires overcoming inner constraints within the planet’s spheres and realizing that in the outer world, tribute is far more effective than forced labor. Chiron’s sesquiquadrate: If one lies on one’s side, the upper and lower ends become, respectively, the right and left. This aspect creates a tendency to use ideas and methods whose true meaning remains inaccessible to the person, while their side effects are unclear and unpredictable. This is a dangerous aspect, especially for individuals with a strong Saturn capable of prolonged, focused study and deep but narrow penetration into poorly understood areas. The sesquiquadrate of Chiron brings the temptation to crudely employ subtle instruments, whose power may manifest very unexpectedly, turning the person from a subject into an object of a karmic experiment. A typical example of the unworked sesquiquadrate of Chiron is the attempt at materialistic-“scientific” study and application of esoteric techniques involving perception of the astral and causal planes, traditionally transmitted from teacher to prepared student. Here, amateurism quickly leads to the individual’s subjugation to a rigid magical egregore and loss of free will and thought (in pronounced cases, to desocialization and mental illness). Proper work enables breakthroughs into previously practically inaccessible realms of the subtle world and effective operation within them through strange yet entirely real methods and instruments which the person perceives as physical, although their influence extends into subtle spheres as well.
