Mercury’s biquintile: When casting lines, puppets usually surface. This aspect at lower and middle levels gives a person the appearance of rational understanding of lower forms of life within the planet’s sphere, and a mental interest in them. However, their thoughts in this direction will be marked by a certain liveliness, and with a harmonious Mercury, they may prove useful—at least, the charm of their speech will not be wasted, and skill in organizing the functioning of lower life for personal benefit may be extraordinary: this is the aspect of the colonizer. Afflicted, the Mercury-Pluto biquintile may produce a ruthless slave trader, though this is rather an exception; at the middle level, the person still attempts, albeit condescendingly, to be humane toward natives, striving to develop (to the extent accessible) their rational thinking and appealing to it. If Mercury is afflicted, this will initially go poorly, and someone with such a biquintile may seriously attempt to appeal to the logic and reason of a one-year-old child; if the planet is afflicted, the person’s rational reasoning, despite its correctness, will be ineffective, and they will have to rely on their intuition and innate humanity, which may suggest a behavior that is logically non-obvious but accurate in the most complicated situations. Pluto’s biquintile: A person’s spiritual level is determined by the amount of conscience they have managed to awaken in their era. This aspect, in its well-developed form, gives a person the ability to effectively engage with complex issues of lower life; for them, it appears as the bearer of fate, something inevitable, relentless, yet ultimately fair, guiding them in the right direction. In the harmonious variant, the person easily perceives the inadequacies and weaknesses of lower life forms within the planet’s sphere and finds the least painful ways to eliminate them. Nevertheless, certain disappointments and irreversible losses await them, since some lower forms cannot withstand criticism and (karmically) must be completely eliminated—a fact they may find difficult to accept, as these forms resonate within their subconscious, and the death of external life forms destroys something within themselves. When Pluto is afflicted, this sometimes occurs very painfully, and the person may become embittered, emotionally detaching themselves from lower life and its problems, as a result becoming its merciless persecutor, seeing in it only evil deserving ruthless annihilation; in doing so, however, they destroy the human element within themselves, placing themselves in service to a cruel egregore and losing free will. The resolution here comes through careful study of lower life forms with full respect for the laws of their development and their inherent ethics; only after this can the person understand and love lower life forms, perceiving them as akin to themselves, so that any surgical intervention becomes healing and humane.
