Quincunx Sun: It is hardest to fight an enemy while remaining a peaceful person. This aspect creates in the planet’s spheres a certain inadequacy of the person’s volitional impulses, which attentive observers will notice, and at a certain level of self-awareness, the person themselves will also sense it, though it may be difficult for them to articulate exactly what it is. Similarly, external imperative situations in the planet’s spheres will present the person with certain difficulties, each of which they can overcome with effort if they wish, but defeat in the quincunx may feel exhausting (while with harmonious aspects, it may seem appealing). This aspect signifies external interference of cosmic will in the planet’s spheres, as well as attempts to integrate it through the person’s own will. Until they begin to see (in the planet’s spheres) the cosmic hand in external imperative circumstances and their own volitional impulses, and learn to respond to them adequately, both will disturb and partly unsettle them. In general, in the spheres of the quincunx, the person (except at a very high level of development) experiences difficulties related to the emergence of cosmic, i.e., non-human, influences and ethics, but in this case, it manifests particularly acutely, since it is hard even to acknowledge that one’s will is under the sway of the cosmic—something that would be clearer with a semi-sextile of the Sun, but here it is combined with one’s own initiative and creative efforts.
At a low level, with the Sun afflicted, the person will try to dodge the small pebbles occasionally flying their way in the planet’s spheres, while with a harmonious Sun, they will likely derive a passive satisfaction, like the sensation of vibrations from a fast train on the upper bunk of a soft carriage; if the train brakes sharply, however, they may tumble down, though their bones will likely remain intact.
Quincunx Chiron: One should wash their hands before playing with words. This aspect creates in the planet’s spheres a peculiar sense of humor with a cosmic tint; in fact, viewing earthly relations from a cosmic perspective alone provides ample cause for genuine laughter (or just as genuine tears). At a low level, the aspect will manifest in the person constantly switching between earthly and cosmic perspectives in the planet’s spheres, throwing their psyche into chaos and turning constructive progress into wandering through dead ends—though each dead end may be short-lived, the person fails to find a satisfactory way forward and, most importantly, cannot understand the meaning of the difficulties that arise or their general origin and cause. The karmic task of this aspect is to find in the planet’s spheres an unexpected mode of perception that reconciles cosmic and earthly karma, and then the dead ends that seemed lifeless for years will open up. For example, a quincunx between Chiron and Pluto, when worked through, offers the possibility of finding a channel for cosmic purification that is acceptable from the standpoint of earthly karma—comparatively painless and free of major tension or karmic knots—but to achieve this, the person must first reach a level of mastery over their subconscious and its purity that will prove capable of handling Pluto.
At a moderate level, this quincunx produces black humor with a cosmic tint and an overall backdrop of utter hopelessness, which must be learned to overcome and transform in order not to fall into the impasse of nihilistic black teaching.
