Quintile of Mars: Visible life force is in an inverse relationship to its evolutionary level. At a low level and with Mars afflicted, this aspect (especially with Mars in the 8th house) may bring sadistic pleasure from the torment of a living being departing from life; however, these are extreme cases, and generally the quintile of Mars still softens its aggression, and the person in the spheres of the planet actively takes interest in specific manifestations of vitality and is inclined to energetically overcome stagnant external and internal states in these areas. A pronounced quintile of Mars to the Moon or Sun may foster a constant interest in biology, especially if Mars or the planet is in the 6th or 12th house; animal protection activities are possible, among others. An afflicted quintile gives clumsy personal expressions of vitality and external blows to it, while lack of processing leads to pathological complexes. For example, the Mars–Saturn quintile gives a person at an average level of development the feeling that it is impossible to harm any living being and their own vulnerability to external aggression, though still much less than, for instance, with a square between Mars and Saturn. Still, the quintile is a harmonious aspect, and if not severely afflicted, it provides a certain protection to the person, at least when they feel and act as a defender of life. At a low level, this aspect fosters a primitive understanding of life’s manifestations, primarily as food-acquisition and sexual instincts; at a high level, it offers the possibility of subtle support for life’s expressions and their deep penetration into stagnant, delayed forms.
Quintile of Pluto: When, in a dense forest teeming with predatory wolves, a young lamb appears, it is in no way to blame, yet it causes a pleasant stir. This is a highly ambiguous aspect, whose interpretation depends not only on major aspects of Pluto and the planet but also on the person’s overall evolutionary level. In general, Pluto acts as an inspector of the quality and forms of life in the spheres of the planet, and the person will have to experience parting with some of them forever—it is better to reconcile with this in advance (experiencing a certain grief). On the other hand, Pluto destroys, first and foremost, parasitic forms of life, and after its influence, the person ultimately feels better, though the internal “bugs and roaches” thriving in the programs of the subconscious may appear quite attractive at first glance—at least if one does not look too closely—and parting with them (especially with an afflicted planet) kills all of one’s life, and only much later does one realize that it was not so. An afflicted Pluto will make this process harsher and more abrupt, while a harmonious Pluto will make it gentler, but in any case, the experience (at low and average levels) will not be the most pleasant. This aspect grants acute critical insight into life’s manifestations in the spheres of the planet, and with an afflicted quintile, a person at a low level may become a “black teacher of life,” destroying not only their parasites but essentially all other manifestations of their life (though they will likely think otherwise)—an aspect of Sodom and Gomorrah and AIDS.
