Mars quintile: Visible life force stands in inverse relation to its evolutionary level. At a low level and with Mars afflicted, this aspect (especially with Mars in the eighth house) may produce sadistic pleasure from the suffering of a living being parting with life; but these are extreme cases, and usually the quintile of Mars still somewhat softens its aggression, making the individual actively interested in specific forms of vital expression within the planet’s spheres, and inclined toward energetic overcoming of backward external and internal states in these areas. A prominent quintile of Mars to the Moon or Sun may generate a constant interest in biology; if Mars or the planet is in the sixth or twelfth house, activity in animal protection is possible. Affliction to the quintile brings clumsy personal expressions of vitality and external blows against it, which, without proper processing, lead to pathological complexes. For example, the Mars-Saturn quintile gives a person at a moderate level of development a sense of inability to harm any living being, along with personal vulnerability to external aggression—yet significantly less than the person perceives, and much less than, for instance, with a Mars-Saturn square. At a low level, this aspect indicates a tendency toward primitive understanding of vital manifestations, mainly as food-gathering and sexual instincts; at a high level, the ability emerges for subtle support of vital expressions and their deep penetration into difficult, backward forms. This aspect brings in the planet’s sphere unexpected surges of vital expression, which may be merely extraordinary exceptions or artifacts, but sometimes sound almost miraculous, revealing flickers of life in seemingly completely dead forms. At a high level, this aspect may indicate brilliant mathematical or theoretical-physical abilities, the capacity to perceive life and development within the most complex and abstract structures and models; at a moderate level, the person should strive to recognize the energetic-vital expressions of Uranus in the planet’s sphere as signs of fate and learn to interpret them. This aspect signifies a certain protection by fate—during a critical moment, an unexpected revitalization arises either within the person or in the external world, disrupting the backward program proceeding according to established plans, creating a spontaneous fluctuation and the possibility of a non-standard resolution or way out of a problem. Working with this aspect proceeds through conscious recognition of the meaning and significance of the vitality surge or unexpected developmental leap, its support and adaptation to reality, without which it usually quickly dies out and fades. Strong activation of Uranus may bring in the planet’s spheres the activation of life in unprecedented forms, placing the person in a dead end and causing great fear; however, hints about its true purpose and nature may be attempted through recalling past Uranian flashes and manifestations of vitality in the planet’s sphere.
