Mars quintile: Manifest life force stands in inverse relation to its evolutionary level. At a low level and with afflicted Mars, this aspect (especially with Mars in the eighth house) may produce sadistic pleasure from the suffering of a living being parting with life; but these are extreme cases, and usually the Mars quintile still somewhat softens its aggression, making the individual actively interested in specific forms of vital expression within the planet’s spheres, and inclined to energetically overcome backward external and internal states in these areas. A prominent Mars quintile to the Moon or Sun may generate a constant interest in biology; if Mars or the planet is in the sixth or twelfth house, activity in animal protection is possible. Affliction to the quintile brings clumsy personal expressions of vitality and external blows against it, which, without proper processing, lead to pathological complexes. For example, the Mars-Saturn quintile gives a person at a medium development level a sense of inability to harm any living being, along with personal vulnerability to external aggression—yet significantly less than the individual perceives, and much less than, for instance, with a Mars-Saturn square. The quintile is still a harmonious aspect, and if not strongly afflicted, provides a certain degree of protection, at least when the person feels and acts as a defender of life. At a low level, this aspect indicates a tendency toward primitive understanding of vital manifestations, primarily as food-gathering and sexual instincts; at a high level, the ability emerges for subtle support of vital expressions and their deep penetration into difficult, backward forms. Jupiter quintile: A great number of locust species will not trouble the truly faithful. In its harmonious form, this is an exceptionally life-affirming aspect: in the planet’s spheres, the individual will experience breadth and abundance of vital manifestations, though not necessarily of the highest quality. At a low level, there will be a desire to consume them; for example, a harmonious Jupiter-Venus quintile produces a lover of life with an erotic emphasis, whose charm is very difficult for the opposite sex to resist. Afflicted Jupiter at a low level produces vital expressions in the planet’s sphere that may disturb others, yet the individual, absorbed in themselves, often does not notice. Here, vital expressions will be numerous, but will coarsely mismatch environmental needs and the forms in which they originated, potentially leading to serious troubles, whose karmic meaning for the individual lies in realizing that when opening possibilities for life expressions—both for others and oneself—one should care about whether they are needed and suitable: Jupiter demands this effort automatically, yet insists upon it. Proper integration brings in the planet’s areas a broad and strong life current, support for the development of many life forms, and the ability to revive seemingly hopelessly dead forms doomed to destruction. In its harmonious variant, without integration, the individual will either feed many parasites with their vitality, or eventually become one of them.
