Het Monster: Pluto in Leo
This nearly twenty-year period of Pluto in Leo (1938–57) encompasses my generation and may even include some of you. This era of leadership, power, and drama began during World War II and culminated with the explosion of the first atomic bomb. It continued in the form of the Cold War between the powerful forces of capitalism and communism, as the world faced the threat of mass destruction and the unleashed forces of ruin. Children of this period, inclined to deeply explore individual creative expression, grew up to form countercultures centered on individuality, some even breaking away from mass culture society in protest against abuses of power.

Generation 1939–1957 (18 years in Leo). Here, Pluto is in exaltation, in the Sun’s house, in the Fire element. Your generation is characterized by immense human and vital dynamism, independence, and a hatred of oppression. The energy you have accumulated must be released. During this time, atomic energy and X-rays were discovered (Marie Curie — Scorpio with Pluto in Leo). At the moment of the Hiroshima bombing, Pluto was at the Sun’s core (in Leo). The world was being reshaped: World War II, events in Czechoslovakia, the Patriotic War, events in Korea. The struggle between capitalism and communism decided the fate of all humanity. This era is marked by the emergence of criminal organizations, suppression of freedom, totalitarian religions, and overpowering leaders (shepherds of the human herd). You are likely a person with unfulfilled ambition, an open maximalist, and a highly active creative individual. You will retain your energy into old age and can promote ideas of societal transformation with otherworldly energy and magic. Pluto in exaltation is directly related to magical energy in the personality. You know how to harness collective energy. While Scorpio does this with effort, Leo does it with strength. You influence through charm but allow others to express themselves. The greater the thing, the stronger you are; the greater the power, the greater your energy. The larger the mass or crowd, the more successfully Leo is fueled by energy. The immense power that elevates Pluto leads you to authority and distinction. Through Pluto, you gain enormous endurance and strength for transformation, as well as a broad scope. You have power over people, lead them, and transform the world. You are driven by an insatiable thirst for space and freedom of action. You reveal your leadership only in mature years. You will reach your highest maturity with the onset of the Aquarius era. You are a late bloomer; the most interesting and turbulent period of your life begins between ages 40 and 43. You may have children later in life. In parenting, you grant freedom; your attitude toward children is uninhibited. In the best case, you are capable of true feeling, you approach love anew, and invest much energy into it. You possess great courage, impulse, passion, and immense dedication. You are terrifying in anger, magnanimous in mercy and love. You dislike being ill and have an exceptional ability to renew your strength. In the worst case, you may become a mafioso, a destroyer, a black magician. Then you are a terrifying individualist who tolerates no objections, reshapes the world to your own liking, and interferes in others’ lives. This generation is marked by cancer outbreaks and serious illnesses.

This position of Pluto represents Leo in its strongest form, when its power over the external world is at its peak—it governs the fate, life, and death of all living things on Earth. Here, Pluto performs the major cleansing of the world observed throughout its 250-year cycle. During the last transit through Leo, World War II took place, atomic weapons were invented and tested, and the possibility of instantaneous annihilation of life on Earth became real, fundamentally altering external reality. However, the generation born during this time has not yet said its final word. It begins the spiritual transformation of society in practical life under the slogan of the Aquarius era. The lower octave of this position manifests as the Black Teacher Leo, endowed with subtle magical power of transformation, capable of penetrating the most intimate depths of the human soul and bringing to the surface the darkest and lowest within. This teacher transforms their students into conduits of crystallizing force, obedient puppets of a harsh egregore or of the teacher themselves. The higher octave consists of spiritual teachers who will begin the synthesis of science and religion into a single world religion and prepare the generation that will open the Aquarius era.

You were born during a 20-year period (1937–1957), when people called the “I-generation” were born. Its representatives are proud and self-confident individuals who place great importance on self-expression and inner integrity. The struggle for women’s rights and the rights of national minorities deeply interests your generation, reflecting its concern for respect for personal dignity. People in your age group wholeheartedly understand that both men and women must have equal rights and opportunities to fully realize their inner potential. However, it is precisely your age group that struggles to be part of a collective where results depend directly on the joint efforts of all members. Your strongly developed ego hinders collective cooperation. You tend to believe that the individual is more important than the collective, dislike authority, and believe no one has the right to tell you what to do. The active movement to defend those who refuse military conscription is one example of how much you value freedom and human rights. Although you have made great efforts to popularize the idea of personal self-development and contributed significantly to the protection of human rights, your generation also exhibits a tendency toward self-absorption. Those around you may be surprised by your ability to devote a lot of time to yourself, taking it away from family and loved ones. Every generation has its heroes and idols, but your generation has a special need for a figure who embodies and focuses their interests and ideals. Perhaps the most vivid example of this is the idea of the Guru, which became known and popular thanks to people in your age group.

Your generation possesses powerful inner potential, strong passions, and a strong capacity for self-sacrifice. You are highly emotional, better than others understand what love is, and absolutize the concepts of strength and energy.
