Mercury-Uranus Sesquiquadrate
(Transit Mercury → Natal Uranus)
Avelom Podvodny. Aspects
Mercury sesquiquadrate: Artificial intelligence is always irresponsible intelligence. This aspect, at a low level, produces a hidden backwardness of thinking that simultaneously gives an impression of agility, sometimes powerful. A person may speak logically and correctly, yet there will be felt some colossal distortions in their speech, as if they are imbuing their words with another, entirely incorrect meaning. The individual themselves, however, will not notice this, just as they will not perceive the profanation to which they subject others’ mental images and information in general during reception. For example, the Mercury-Mars sesquiquadrate produces a very limited set of mental schemas through which the person interprets and directs any forms of activity and energy—both their own and others’—often restricted to categories such as “good-bad, own-foreign, friend-enemy,” making it impossible for them to recognize and account for the dual nature of any activity. At the same time, their speech (especially with a harmonious Mercury) may at first glance sound powerful, convincing, and logical, demolishing any obstacles, including truth. Working through this aspect requires awareness of the limitations of one’s mental schemas and constructing, upon their (stable!) foundation, structures intended for other purposes (and inhabitants) than originally anticipated; at a high level, this becomes spirit—that which exists beyond thought and logic, yet to which both thought and logic should lead, like signposts guiding the seeker to the treasure hidden within the labyrinth. Uranus sesquiquadrate: Real difficulties begin when a person ceases to suit their own concept. At a high level of integration, this aspect grants, in the planet’s sphere, inventiveness in assembling structures from ready-made blocks, where the person will receive the most unexpected and sometimes brilliant ideas, yet ultimately the house they design and build will be comfortable and cozy only for other people; if the individual carefully considers others’ wishes, from their own perspective the house will still turn out lifeless, albeit original in construction. For example, a person with a Moon-Uranus sesquiquadrate and Uranus in the sixth house may devise an excellent system of physical exercises or techniques of self-control, relaxation, etc., which will produce only an external, superficial effect for themselves, yet prove deeply vital and meaningful for others, and it is precisely toward them that they should orient its development. At a low level, this aspect produces, in the planet’s spheres, fixation on rigid whims and caprices which the person cannot explain, yet which become obligatory for them, often hurting both their surroundings and themselves. Such signs should be paid attention to, but correctly interpreting them will be difficult; there is particular danger, especially when the sesquiquadrate is afflicted, of dogmatic and straightforward interpretations escalating into obsession.
