Venus semi-square: Upon close inspection, flowers of evil usually turn out to be artificial. This aspect brings hidden rigidity and schematic behavior in social relationships within the areas ruled by the Planet. Outwardly, the person may appear completely adequate in social interactions, but close ones will sense an excess of internal formalism and predetermined notions of acceptable social situations, while the person themselves remains largely unaware of it. This manifests especially clearly in love, where the individual will repeatedly encounter one (rarely two) and the same scenario—a kind of matrix into which fate and the person themselves keep imprinting their lives and those of their partners—until this pattern becomes utterly unbearable, as it ultimately fails to provide satisfying emotional experiences, despite often appearing stable and seemingly functional. Attempts to forcibly disrupt the natural course of events either fail or lead to disaster; resolution lies in shifting focus away from solving personal problems, particularly emotional and social dissatisfaction, and redirecting attention toward the problems of others. In doing so, the person will discover that what seems obvious and dull to them often proves interesting, useful, and necessary to someone else—provided they do not insist on it. Social clarity is a very valuable quality, provided the person manages to make it an indirect rather than primary content of communication, and places it in service of higher goals and, above all, other people. Mars semi-square: The jackhammer of official ideology does not so much shatter as compact citizens’ subversive thoughts. In the areas ruled by the Planet, the individual has limited means for expressing their activity, although this is not immediately obvious. If they succeed in finding a combination of these means suitable for their purposes, the effect can be excellent; more often, however, they will feel a certain discomfort, the causes of which remain entirely mysterious to them at lower and middle levels of development. For example, the Mercury-Mars semi-square causes poor motor coordination, yet some individual movements may be perfect, and, with determination, by combining them the person might even achieve success in certain sports, though becoming a champion with this aspect is difficult. A person with an unworked Moon-Mars square will be crude in personal perception and expression, sensitive, harsh, and generally difficult to deal with, as long as they demand that external reality adapt to them; whereas once they set themselves the goal of serving reality, they will gradually gain broad channels for self-expression and constructive activity, though initially they will, of course, be awkward—yet sincerity and selflessness will greatly mitigate this. At a low level, especially with strong energy, the person tends to subjugate the world in the Planet’s areas to their own (perfectly definite) ideas of how these areas should be, and resistance to this can be very difficult. For instance, the Mars-Mercury semi-square (particularly if well-aspected) confers great cunning and agility, which at first glance may appear to be wisdom and intelligence.
