Mercury’s semi-quintile: To express empathy, one must possess it. In the areas ruled by the Planet, the individual’s thought processes and particularly rational reasoning will lean toward humanitarian aspects of corresponding issues. Verbally, the person will demand a humane approach and will be easily offended by what they perceive as harsh remarks from others, interpreting them as inhumane. However, in this case, the connection between the Planet’s principle and Mercurial functions is weak; thus, on one hand, negative manifestations related to Mercury (for example, offensive words) have little direct impact on the areas governed by the Planet, although the person may believe otherwise. On the other hand, Mercury’s positive influence on the individual and on human spheres corresponding to the Planet has only a weak direct effect, though the person may not notice this. Therefore, they should strive either for subtle effects or involve other planets to avoid appearing, from others’ perspective, as an empty talker and demagogue who cares about others’ well-being in words only. Neptune’s semi-quintile: In our time, it is very important to be known as compassionate. This aspect brings, in the areas of the Planet’s influence, pity for people (primarily for oneself) and a desire to alleviate their suffering, often at a lower level through deception (“lying for salvation”) and drugs. The individual, when acting inhumanely within the Planet’s spheres, later experiences strong feelings of guilt and shame, thus striving to avoid such situations even in small matters, or justifying their actions by distorting facts to convince themselves that what they did ultimately benefited someone else. However, when Neptune is activated, logical arguments are of little help. When well-integrated, this aspect provides deep understanding of the humanistic aspects of the planetary principle and its humane application within the Planet’s spheres of influence; at a high level—religious and mystical understanding of human nature: prophets and religious philosophers of a humanistic orientation. Generally, this semi-quintile offers a gentle protection of fate: when the person’s situation in the Planet’s areas becomes truly unbearable, they may (consciously or unconsciously) appeal for help, and divine grace will alleviate their suffering. With a strong Neptune, it will not be easy to distinguish, within the Planet’s spheres, genuine humanity toward others from inhumanity, and here the individual must exercise caution.
