Saturn-Neptune Sesquiquadrate
(Transit Saturn → Natal Neptune)
Avelom Podvodny. Aspects
Saturn’s sesquiquadrate: If the wheel of fortune is stuck in a ditch, the cross of fate can be carried on one’s back. This aspect brings obstacles in the planet’s spheres similar to shackles: walking is possible, but difficult. The person, however, does not always feel them (as with Saturn’s square), and sometimes, additionally, develops a peculiarly awkward manner of moving—neither elegant nor graceful, yet generally acceptable. If this becomes habitual, it grows highly stable, and the person tends to view others endowed with unnecessary and even harmful freedom with skepticism: a steam hammer has only one degree of freedom (up and down), yet works so effectively it’s a joy to behold, flattening even a ram’s horn into a pancake. Subconsciously, though, the individual feels strong constraints in the planet’s spheres, forcing them onto an extremely narrow track in interaction with the outer world, and may develop deep-seated inferiority complexes, which they attempt to repress into the subconscious. In inner life, they seek but long fail to find a path toward deep mastery of the planet’s spheres, since the initially rigid framework allows movement only along very coarse, predetermined routes, as if blocking subtlety. Here, proper work transforms the dog’s harsh leash into the flexible mind of a wise sage who perceives the course and branches of karma even in seemingly hopeless situations—but this requires overcoming inner constraints in the planet’s spheres and realizing that in the outer world, tribute is far more effective than forced labor. Neptune’s sesquiquadrate: An idolater in any religion is still an idolater. At a low level of development, this person will clumsily lie or fall into mistaken positions within the planet’s spheres, perceiving this as inevitable and sometimes even constructive. For example, an unworked Jupiter-Neptune sesquiquadrate will likely make a person susceptible to flattery, which may become their primary weapon—yet one that frequently betrays them, though awareness of this remains difficult. At a low level, this aspect imposes overly rigid boundaries of understanding and overly fixed meditative paths in the planet’s spheres, usually quite low in quality, which the person nevertheless considers exemplary and precisely aligned with where they should be going. For instance, a Moon-Neptune sesquiquadrate may establish once and for all a specific rest ritual involving alcohol consumption, drunken quarrels, and hangovers the next day, rendering any other recreational ideas inconceivable. At a high level, the person grasps subtle paths of development within the planet’s spheres and revitalizes meditative practices; for example, well-worn prayer paths become overgrown with living flowers of delicate, fluid, and never-repeating religious feelings and experiences—this is the path of saints who transcend the dogma of the official church.
