Semi-square Sun: A person must fulfill not only God’s will but also consider that it is their own. This aspect makes a person’s will in the areas governed by the planet less perfect, sometimes too crude an instrument. Their initiatives often prove overly straightforward (if the Sun is in Pisces or Cancer, the person will, accordingly, be overly blunt or awkwardly evade responsibility and hide in their shell). With a tendency toward self-observation, they may sometimes feel that their will is mixed with something foreign—deliberately crude and harsh. A similar effect is observed in imperative external circumstances, which do not necessarily oppose or openly obstruct (a semi-square is not a square), but prove unkindly rigid and often effectively destroy the most interesting, promising, or attractive moments for the person in the areas governed by the planet. If external conditions are favorable, an internal demon suddenly awakens, harshly roughening things, and the person cannot manage it at the level of their lower will. Here, the work involves forming ideals and incorporating higher will and higher direction, as well as careful analysis of subconscious programs that govern the interaction of the principles of will and the planet: somewhere here (hints should be sought in situations of simultaneous activity of the houses occupied by the Sun and the planet) the ego is deeply entrenched, buried in evolutionary patterns far below the person’s actual evolutionary level. Processing requires awareness and transformation of this program, after which the person gains the ability to exercise clear and refined volitional control in the areas governed by the planet. At a low level, this aspect manifests in dictators who wield harsh tools of external suppression and their victims.
Semi-square Mars: In general, things have shaped up as relationships can be called, and what happened—addition. In the areas governed by the planet, this person struggles to direct their energy with flexibility in response to circumstances and to react subtly to external force. External aggression provokes a reciprocal response, often disproportionate in both strength and relevance. Meanwhile, they may ignore weak influences for a long time, only to erupt in a literal outburst of indignation over a minor irritant—a drop that overflowed an entirely unrelated cup: subjectively, perhaps justified, but objectively unjust. This person will suffer from the rudeness, energy, and aggression of the external world directed at them, finding it difficult to handle them with sufficient refinement. At the same time, their aggressive instincts in the areas governed by the planet will be particularly crude and poorly controlled, and their activity will often, unbeknownst to them, take on harsh forms. For example, an unprocessed semi-square Mars-Saturn aspect, alongside vulnerability to aggression, also produces rigidity in demands toward others, which can escalate to intolerance. It is important for this person to understand that high demands on others are usually subconsciously motivated by dissatisfaction with themselves, and to recognize where their own shortcomings and unfinished work lie. Processing this aspect provides refined tools and work at high vibrational levels of energy.
