Mars tridecile: A barrel of cunning cannot replace a spoon of conscience. This aspect gives a person the opportunities and desire to direct their energy into the areas of the Planet in support of life, in the forms in which they are inclined to perceive it. Through energetic participation in this life, self-expression successfully takes place—i.e., external realization, and often incidentally also the shaping of inner life—which, when worked through, gives them a sense of belonging specifically to the human race, a rare and precious experience for the average person. The condition of the Planet makes the task of supporting life processes difficult, and Mars’ affliction brings coarseness to the person’s energy, yet at the same time emphasizes the tridecile as one of the pathways toward its harmonization. Subjectively, this manifests as the person becoming softer and more delicate in the Planet’s areas, without fully understanding why, as if someone constantly reminds them: “Careful, life!” (An attentive observer will notice the softening effect of the decile, quintile, and their derivatives in people who have fallen the furthest). If Mars is harmonious, the person’s energy in the Planet’s sphere will generally be directed successfully, supporting life (in the case of Mars-Pluto tridecile, through effective elimination of its parasites), which will seem entirely natural to the person, yet the result will inspire them more than they realize. Pluto tridecile: While governing the destinies of nations, one must not forget one’s own. This aspect potentially provides clear insight into the flaws and defects in the development of life within the Planet’s spheres, and with afflicted Pluto, the person may perceive only these flaws, creating an overall rather gloomy picture. A well-aspected Pluto will grant the individual great capacity for effectively healing these ills, particularly through eliminating parasitic forms of life, from which they may derive great satisfaction. For example, a well-developed Pluto-Moon tridecile may produce an excellent physician (especially with a strong sixth or twelfth house), while a Pluto-Venus tridecile may yield a harsh art critic, biting satirist, or, with a strong Mercury, a journalist who lashes out at societal sores. At a lower level, criticism of life’s development in the Planet’s spheres may become destructive and often unjust, yet usually stems from good intentions and aims at benefit, even if not always achieving it, especially when the Planet is afflicted. With severe damage to the tridecile, tendencies toward black teaching of life manifestations may arise—i.e., their conscious destruction—though typically at the lowest level, as a consequence of personal frustrations accompanied by painful failures when attempting to discover (within the Planet’s spheres) life development in their inner world and express it outwardly.
