Tridecile of the Sun: When participating in another’s life, an honest person strives to preserve it. This aspect provides the opportunity for the successful and constructive application of a person’s will toward the development of life in the areas governed by the Planet. The individual will not feel direct pressure from circumstances compelling them toward action, but will instead experience an impulse of inner vitality that seems to invite involvement in issues related to revitalizing stagnant forms within the Planet’s spheres. These matters will not seem foreign, but closely connected to the person personally. Indeed, participation in the development of life within the Planet’s domains promises not only success in the endeavor itself, but also significant support in personal self-expression. Ultimately, the person may come to feel within themselves a truly human principle—guiding the evolution of lower life forms. With a harmonious Sun, this is a very favorable aspect; the person can achieve much if they overcome their laziness. A defeated Sun may give an incorrect direction to initiative, or external objective conditions may distort it, greatly hindering the person’s attempts to participate in the development of life in the Planet’s spheres. And if the Sun is afflicted, without special work on the tridecile, its assistance will initially have a destructive character, even with the best intentions. Tridecile of Mars: A barrel of cunning does not replace a spoon of conscience. This aspect gives the person opportunities and the desire to direct their energy within the Planet’s spheres toward supporting life in the forms they are inclined to recognize. Through energetic participation in this life, their self-expression unfolds successfully—meaning external realization, and often, incidentally, the shaping of inner life as well. When worked on, this gives the person a sense of belonging specifically to the human race, a rare and precious experience for the average individual. The condition of the Planet makes the task of supporting life processes challenging, and an afflicted Mars brings coarseness to the person’s energy, yet at the same time emphasizes the tridecile as one of the paths toward its harmonization. Subjectively, this manifests as the person becoming softer and more delicate in the Planet’s spheres, without fully understanding why, as if someone constantly reminds them: “Careful, life!” (An attentive observer will notice the softening effect of the decile, quintile, and their derivatives in people who have fallen the furthest). If Mars is harmonious, the person’s energy in the Planet’s sphere will typically be directed successfully, supporting life (in the case of a Mars-Pluto tridecile, through the effective elimination of its parasites), which will seem entirely natural to the person, yet the result will inspire them more than they realize.
