Your child is a Capricorn
Birth date: December 21 – January 20
There are many different views on what constitutes proper child development, how to raise and educate a baby, as well as a vast amount of scientific and popular literature on how to be a good parent. A developmental method is considered effective if it helps our children grow emotionally, physically, spiritually, and fosters the development of communication skills.
Astrology, like psychology, provides an opportunity to find an individual approach to each child, to peek into their inner world, and to find answers to many “whys.” It is unlikely that there is another field of human knowledge that provides such detailed information about a person’s innate traits as astrology, which undoubtedly makes it much easier for us, as parents, to understand our children. Every parent wants the best for their child and does everything possible in that direction. Sometimes, however, we are surprised to discover that what we consider best, desirable, and what we have spent so much time and effort on out of our best intentions, our son or daughter does only out of respect and love for us, while being genuinely interested in something completely different.
This is the tenth article in the series “Child Astrology,” dedicated to children with the Sun in Capricorn. If the description does not quite match your child, do not be surprised, as this article does not take into account the information of the other 11 planets and their interrelationships. Capricorns are known for their diligence, ability to put effort into their chosen direction despite difficulties, and their reliability—you can count on them and know what to expect. Capricorn children usually do not cause their parents much trouble; the main thing in their upbringing is to help them find the right balance between responsibilities, daily tasks, and play.
So, what traits are characteristic of Capricorn children:
1. Persistence
The symbol of Capricorn is the Mountain Goat—a creature that strives for the summit with small, steady, and stable steps, eventually reaching the very top. Decisive and diligent, adult Capricorns are capable of persistently moving in their chosen direction, working in a strict, disciplined manner for a long time because they know exactly what they want and understand that the end result is worth the effort.
You may notice the same trait in your little Capricorn: they persistently continue what they have started with unwavering determination and a clear understanding of what they want to achieve. This is why Capricorn children are often teachers’ favorites and the best little helpers at home—once they take on a task, they are unlikely to abandon it until they achieve the desired result.
The flip side of such diligence (persistence, industriousness) is that Capricorn children tend to take what they do too seriously and thus neglect socializing and play. So, if you notice that your child is immersed for hours in completing school assignments or assembling a complex puzzle, encourage them to go outside and play with friends or treat them to ice cream. Occasionally, give them household chores they enjoy—this way, their natural desire for organized, planned activities is satisfied, and order is maintained at home.
Capricorns who learn to balance work and play in childhood grow up to be some of the most successful adults.
2. Ambition, purposefulness.
In most cases, practical Capricorns are guided by quite serious goals and ambitious plans. Usually, this is not evident from their calm demeanor and restrained manner. Behind the calm and restraint of many Capricorns lies an iron determination to achieve their goals, whatever they may be.
In your child, this determination and drive to achieve specific goals may manifest as a strong desire to become the editor of the school magazine or the captain of a sports team. It is quite possible that sometimes your child may surprise you with their strong desire to be first (to get ahead), whether at home in relationships with siblings or on the playground, rejoicing when they win in games.
Capricorn children feel more confident and develop better when parents themselves set clear boundaries for them. If they are left entirely to their own devices and can do whatever and whenever they please, little Capricorns may feel somewhat disoriented and confused. It is better for them to have a daily routine, preferably with a kind of “task schedule” from an early age. This not only gives them a sense of security and safety but also provides a sense of stability and control, which is essential for fulfilling their natural drive for productivity and achieving set goals.
3. Little “practical adults”.
Capricorns have their own unique, sign-specific practical view of life. Children of this zodiac sign exhibit the same level of activity as adults, which sometimes makes them seem wise beyond their years. Many of them quickly find “common ground” with adults, communicating with them seriously and on equal terms.
Willingness to set limits and self-control are integral parts of the Capricorn nature, so parents need to teach their child to step away from tasks to simply play, to do something just for fun, and to understand that not everything in life has to be useful or practical.
4. Respect for rules.
Capricorn children naturally respect norms and rules. Unlike Sagittarians, who tend to question whether a rule is truly necessary, Capricorns usually adhere to what is accepted and familiar to them. This character trait makes adult Capricorns quite conservative and inclined to follow conventions.
Even in childhood, Capricorns have a strong sense of what they should and should not do. Therefore, if you constantly remind them about unfulfilled requests or demands, they may take it quite painfully.
Most often, Capricorn children behave with dignity. If they do decide to break a rule, it is likely because they have a good reason or firmly believe that the rule does not apply to them. In such cases, it is best to logically explain why they should listen to you and follow the rules. Once you manage to explain the practical benefits of adhering to the rule, you can be sure that your opinion has been considered, no matter what reaction it initially provoked.
Self-respect and a sense of dignity are important for every child. To raise a confident Capricorn, respect their life goals while giving them a firm sense of being loved simply because they are your son or daughter.
Motivation: the desire for self-affirmation, to prove oneself, to be responsible; the ability to achieve goals and maintain control over the situation.
