Child Leo

Your Child is a Leo

Birthday: July 23 – August 22

A natal chart is a kind of instantaneous snapshot that reflects the talents, abilities, and challenges that may arise in life. This information is invaluable in understanding the uniqueness and individuality of every person, whether a child or an adult.

This is the fifth article in the series Child Astrology. If it provides an imprecise description of your Leo child, do not be surprised, as this article does not account for the information of the other 11 planets and their interrelationships. Read more about it here.

So, what traits are inherent in a Leo child?

1. Desire to be the center of attention.

This zodiac sign is ruled by the Sun, which is the center of the solar system, and all planets revolve around it. Similarly, a Leo child internally expects to become the center of attention in almost any situation. A Leo child considers it natural that all attention should be focused on them.

It is quite possible that even on the playground, your little one will be surrounded by other children, and as they grow up, you may find that your home becomes a gathering place for friends, whether classmates or neighborhood kids. Even if your Leo does not bring friends home, you can be sure that in their circle, they stand out and unconsciously strive to take a leading position.

Some Leo children seek attention, while others naturally find themselves at the center of it. There are also more reserved Leos who do not openly show their desire for attention and recognition, but this inner need to shine and be the best is still present.

  • Need for praise and recognition.

If Leo children are denied the praise they so desperately need, they withdraw and “wilt.” Some may even act out destructively to regain your attention. Try to find reasons to sincerely praise your Leo child. Even if you want to scold or reprimand them, you will achieve much more if you start with praise and then have a “corrective conversation.”

  • Thanks to their natural brightness and dynamism

(characteristic of all fire signs: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Leo children easily make friends, and peers are often willing to follow their lead. Leo children, like adults of this zodiac sign, are good at getting along with those they like and just as easily “cross out” or ignore those they consider losers.

2. Demonstrativeness.

Since children of this zodiac sign unconsciously strive to demonstrate what they are capable of—being active, proactive, responsible, patient, etc.—they more often than others find themselves in the spotlight. They are praised, set as an example, and it is not always easy for others to avoid showing arrogance or vanity. Therefore, do not allow all this attention from others to “go to your child’s head.”

3. Desire to be the best.

Leo children have an innate sense of dignity and pride. Therefore, whenever possible, avoid scolding or reprimanding them in front of others, and do not overly restrain their desire to take action—they express themselves this way.

Leos strive to be the best at whatever they undertake. Many of them enjoy competing (in sports), provided there is a chance to win. However, if they feel they are unlikely to win, they either avoid participating altogether or choose another activity (sport) where they can succeed.

Try to encourage your little Leo to take on tasks that seem challenging to them. Praise them in such situations, both for small successes and for perseverance, and support their desire to see things through to the end, even when it is difficult (by the way, they have the stamina and patience for it once they have started something).

4. Tendency to take charge.

The desire to express themselves through actions rather than words, the ability to take responsibility for commitments, and a general readiness to bear responsibility often lead to Leos naturally taking charge—not only of themselves but also of others. Later, they may not even notice how they start giving orders, and this leadership style is unlikely to be described as democratic.

If this kind of authority is not tempered or regulated by anyone or anything, and if you do not teach your Leo child restraint, simplicity, humility, and sensitivity in childhood, they may grow up to be an arrogant and conceited adult.

The best approach for adults in such cases is to set an example of sensitive and simple behavior toward others. A commanding tone like “I told you to do it this way” or the phrase “those are the rules” rarely works with Leo children or teenagers.

  • Give them enough freedom so they do not have to fight for it, which they will inevitably do if they feel you are suppressing or controlling them too much. Leos are responsible and know how to stand up for themselves. Whenever possible, entrust them with responsible and non-trivial household tasks; they may take out the trash or wash dishes, but these are too ordinary for them.

5. Sensitivity.

Of course, there is no need to indulge all the whims of your little Leo, but it is also undesirable to dismiss them every time they ask for your attention. Behind all their laughter and self-confidence lies a sensitive and vulnerable soul. On one hand, Leos are naturally self-assured and can easily be spoiled, turning into “show-offs” or “brats.” On the other hand, this confidence in their abilities can easily be undermined if you do not support them during failures.

As a parent, you need to find a balance between encouragement—so they know you are truly proud of their achievements—and boundaries (firmness), without making them feel incapable.

The best way to raise your little Leo is to actively participate in their life. If you ignore them for a long time and then suddenly shower them with praise, they will not believe you. Instead, give them your love and attention in small doses every day, and you will become the support they need.

  • Desire to care for the weak and helpless.

Leo children can be incredibly generous to those they consider their best friends or those in need of help. You may also notice that your Leo child brings home stray animals of all shapes and sizes because these poor creatures seem so lost and unwanted.

At the same time, in their generosity and desire to protect the weak, they sometimes cannot distinguish a true friend from someone who flatters them just to get something in return.

Motivation for responsibility – the opportunity to stand out.
