Sextile Mercury – Venus
Het Monster: Charm, grace, ease, and elegance in speech. Literary and poetic talent. A pleasant voice. Composers are not uncommon.
Katrin Ob’ye: The sextile between Mercury and Venus, like the conjunction, grants charm and allure, turning temptation into a pleasant game… Eloquence and intellect become allies in this game.
A. Podvodny: Sextile Mercury – Venus
The sextile of Mercury: The mind works effectively at the boundary between what a person does not understand and what they fundamentally cannot change. The Mercury sextile gives the planet the ability to constructively interact with the principle of thought. The assertion that “the mind is everything” is both a justification of reality and its falsification, yet within the sphere of the planet’s influence, the sextile grants a person various opportunities for rational understanding and tactical mental management.
The Mercury sextile does not provide instant, superficial rational clarity about the planet’s principle—unlike the trine—but it makes efforts aimed at comprehending it constructive. With some effort, a person reaches a level where their understanding does not profane the planet’s principle but, on the contrary, opens new avenues for its development.
When interpreting this aspect, it is important to consider which planet in the sextile is stronger. If Mercury is stronger, the person may be tempted to consider their initial (or secondary) thoughts sufficient and effective, suppressing the planet’s principle with them, distorting it greatly, and their mental control over the planet may prove too rigid. If the planet in the sextile is stronger, the person may be tempted to subordinate their thinking to its principle, leading to biased rational understanding that hinders objective judgment, and their mental control may be too weak.
In any case, the person will feel a general need for mental development in the areas governed by the planet. Working through the aspect grants great opportunities for rationalization in the planet’s spheres of influence, as well as subtlety and flexibility in rational thought, whose boundaries of competence the person will clearly sense.
This is favorable for teachers in fields related to the planet, as the person will be able to provide students with broad opportunities to master the planet’s principle by engaging their rational minds—an effective teaching method. Conversely, neglecting to work through the aspect, persistent unwillingness to use rational thought to engage with the planet’s principle, leads the person to lose faith in themselves, their abilities, and potential, resulting in mental depression and possible blows of fate in the corresponding areas.
The sextile of Venus: By rejecting love, a person not only rejects God but also loudly invites the devil. The Venus sextile grants a person opportunities and an internally felt need for socialization and the development of the aesthetic principle in the spheres governed by the planet. For example, with a sextile between Venus and Mercury, the person deeply desires to attract others through the beauty of their speech, the refinement of their thoughts, and the perfection of their writing style. Fate will provide opportunities for such development, though this does not necessarily mean a literary career (for which a trine to Venus is more suitable, preferably involving Mercury as well).
The Venus sextile provides great constructive power of love in the planet’s spheres. This is a highly favorable aspect, as love serves as an excellent motivator for work, and the person often willingly makes efforts to understand and work through the planet’s principle. As a result, the latter (under Venus’s influence) improves significantly and softens. However, a person operating at a low level of Venus’s processing, focused solely on consumption, will not engage in any activity requiring effort, even when the light of possible love touches their face—only to bitterly regret it later or harden into lonely selfishness.
Karma always implies working through or at least periodically activating aspects, and if a person ignores the influence of Venus through the planet’s sextile, the principle of the latter will suffer from a lack of understanding and love, which will also reflect on the person as a whole. Unworked Venus sextiles often result in particularly harsh karmic blows, so the person can understand to what extent what they once voluntarily rejected was truly necessary.
