Sun – Moon Square
(Transit: Sun → Natal Moon)
Different sources for the child’s horoscope
A conflict between unconscious needs and external personality. The child feels pressured into actions that ultimately make him feel bad. This is usually the result of wanting something he doesn’t truly need. Sometimes it indicates difficult relationships between the mother and father. The family environment in childhood complicates understanding of the opposite sex and prevents harmonious relationships.
Het Monster. Aspects
A split between the conscious and subconscious. Behavioral norms accepted by consciousness hinder the expression of personality. Subconscious desires are often obstructed by home and family. The family environment in childhood complicated understanding of the opposite sex, hence perpetual discord in relationships with a partner.
Catherine Aubier. Astrological Dictionary
Opposition, square: discord between the conscious and emotional spheres—a sign of moral discomfort stemming from inner conflict and sometimes from an inability to find an approach to representatives of the opposite sex. The personality is unbalanced, capricious, torn by contradictory desires, and eventually reconciles itself to the idea that perfection does not exist in the world. Psychologically, such people divide all of humanity into men and women, into two hostile camps (here, the perception of parental influence plays a significant role), mutual understanding and harmonious relationships between which are mostly impossible. In a specific application, this refers to difficulties in achieving success in the social sphere (Sun) and in the family sphere (Moon). Depending on which of the two planets dominates in the chart, the person will prefer one area over the other but will never be able to realize themselves fully in both.
Avesalom Podvodny. Aspects
Sun square: Never blame the mirror under any circumstances. The square of the Sun places the planet under the impact of disharmonious impulses of human will and imperative external circumstances. The person, of course, does not tend to consider their own volitions as disharmonious and at a low level will not notice their own rudeness, harshness, or incompetence, yet will keenly sense these qualities in the environment and other people when the planetary principle is activated. At the second or third level of processing the square, the person may feel as though they have external and internal enemies whose goal is to prevent, sometimes in a crude form, the expression of the planetary principle. For example, with a Sun–Moon square, the person will occasionally involuntarily make rude mistakes and tactless remarks toward women and may secretly fear and dislike them, while simultaneously feeling a strong pull toward them, since the internal image of the mother-woman will be significantly distorted and active. If the Sun is in Aries, aggression and sharpness may manifest; if in Pisces, false positions and misguided initiatives with unpleasant consequences may arise, and so on. The person pays impersonal attention to what happens in the spheres of the planet; external initiative is permitted only when forced by external circumstances and even then in minimal measure, as it usually leads to disharmonious outcomes. From the perspective of inner development, this aspect is highly promising for acquiring true power over oneself in the sphere of the planet’s influence and transitioning to service of a higher egregore, which signifies a more creative and internally free life. With good energy, one can attempt to master the disharmonious external will and redirect it past oneself toward others—an aspect of black teachers, especially with a pronounced Sun square to higher planets. Working through it grants the ability to act subtly, following barely perceptible instructions from a higher egregore, weaving the finest threads of karma that may pertain to a distant future. Moon square: One should distinguish between people whose soul is asleep and those whose soul has already departed. The Moon square creates significant internal difficulties related to the planetary principle, especially in its perception. For example, a Moon–Mars square gives a sense of the harshness and aggression of the external world in situations where it is not remotely apparent, and conversely, the person may be aggressive and cruel without noticing it. The Moon square makes the ego programs associated with the planet prominent and visible: the person strongly desires to selfishly consume the planet’s principle, but external and internal life circumstances prevent this, resulting in severe frustration, resentment toward the world, a sense of deprivation, and so on. The more they pity themselves, the worse they feel. However, the karmic essence of this square does not lie in straightforward asceticism or rejection of the planet’s principle (which can sometimes lead to illness) but in a detailed and thorough study of the corresponding subconscious programs of the planet, distinguishing the egocentric and evolutionarily constructive components within them, and establishing an adequate relationship with them. The person not only wants to consume the planet’s vibrations but also strives to direct them inward, though this rarely succeeds. If the Moon is significantly stronger than the planet, the latter becomes heavily profaned. For example, a Moon–Venus square can make a person a ruthless consumer of the opposite sex, subconsciously perceived (at least in love) as crude and primitive, and cultivate a lack of respect (i.e., a skill that obstructs conscious and subconscious profanation). Working through it provides a deep understanding and subtlety regarding the planetary principle, even the ability to see its influence in another’s subconscious, which grants excellent pedagogical abilities in relevant areas; for example, a worked-through Sun–Moon square is an aspect of a class teacher or elementary school teacher.
A. Ryzhov. Health, Ascendant, Sun, Moon
Weak health and a tendency toward functional and constitutional diseases. We have already clarified what constitution is. Now let’s clarify what a constitutional disease is. The former earthly form suddenly becomes, say, swollen with lymph. The person becomes puffy and watery or, conversely, emaciated. The entire system as a whole will be prone to the influence of cold.
Frances Sakoian. Aspects
Not as significant as other Sun squares. It creates a split between conscious and subconscious will, conscious and unconscious behavior. These behavioral norms hinder the expression of the true self. A lack of balance leads to emotional insecurity. Often, home and family obstruct creative expression. The family environment in childhood complicates understanding of the opposite sex and prevents harmonious relationships.
