Square Sun – Mercury
(Transit. Sun → Natal Mercury)

Square Sun: One should never complain about the mirror under any circumstances. The square of the Sun subjects the planet to the impact of disharmonious impulses of human will and imperative external circumstances. At the same time, the person, of course, does not tend to consider their volitional manifestations disharmonious, and at a low level, they will not notice either their own rudeness, harshness, or incompetence. However, they will very subtly sense these qualities in the environment and other people when the planet’s principle is activated. At the second or third level of processing the square, it will seem to the person that they are, as if, both external and internal enemies of the planetary principle, whose goal is to prevent its manifestation, sometimes in a crude form. For example, in the case of a square between the Sun and the Moon, a person will occasionally seem to involuntarily make rude mistakes and tactless remarks when communicating with women, possibly fearing and disliking them secretly, while simultaneously feeling a strong attraction to them, since the internal image of the mother-woman will be significantly distorted and active in them. If the Sun is in Aries, aggression and sharpness are possible; if in Pisces, false positions and false initiatives with unpleasant consequences, etc.
The square imposes a detached attention to what is happening in the spheres of the planet; external initiative is allowed only when forced by circumstances, and even then in minimal measure, as it usually leads to disharmonious consequences. From the perspective of inner development, this aspect is very promising for acquiring (in the sphere of the planet’s influence) true power over oneself and transitioning to service of a higher egregore, which implies a more creative and internally free life. With good energy, one can attempt to master the disharmonious external will and redirect it past oneself toward others — an aspect of black teachers, especially with a pronounced square of the Sun to higher planets. Working through it grants the ability to operate subtly, following barely audible instructions from a higher egregore, weaving delicate threads of the finest karma, sometimes concerning distant futures.
Square Mercury: If a thought occurs but does not take shape in words, it means it was poorly invited. The square of Mercury creates significant difficulties for a person in the interaction between the planet’s principle and rational thinking and language. The interpretation here depends on which planet in the square is stronger. If Mercury prevails, the person will consider their (sometimes others’) thoughts and reflections about the planet to be extraordinarily important and reasonable, even though they often greatly distort the planetary principle, as the person does not fully understand it rationally, though others’ thoughts about it may indeed be sound. If, however, the planet in the square is stronger, then thinking in general will be under its disharmonious influence, becoming distorted, profaned, and narrowed, etc. Mercury will rudely interfere with the style of the sign in which it is located and partially suppress it.
In general, the square of Mercury is characterized by a person’s strong mental preoccupation with the issues of the planet and the spheres of its influence, along with initially distorted reasoning, which typically involves fragmented perception and understanding of the matter—sometimes accurate and deep, but mostly unsatisfactory. It is very difficult for the person themselves to believe this, even after a series of such experiences. The level of processing the aspect is clearly visible in the quality of speech when the person talks about planetary issues (if they speak relatively calmly, i.e., through Mercury rather than Mars).
At a low level of processing the square of Mercury, a person is often inclined to study (lecture) others, asserting themselves at their expense, without truly understanding the subject they are reasoning about. Working through it requires systematic effort to fill the gaps in mental perception of the planetary principle and abandoning direct mental pressure on it, which is accompanied by crude profanation (as well as a tendency toward speculation). Next, one must learn to overcome their unnatural dullness, which manifests when attempting to understand something new about the planet (the subconscious protest can be very sharp, even leading to severe depression and an inability to read a text), and resist emotional outbursts that resist the development of deeply understanding people.
