Sun Square Venus

Sun – Venus Square

(Transit. Sun → Natal Venus)

Avesalom Podvodny. Aspects

Sun square: One should never complain about the mirror. The Sun square places the planet under the impact of disharmonious impulses of human will and imperative external circumstances. At the same time, the person, of course, is not inclined to consider their volitional expressions as disharmonious, and at a low level, they will not notice either their own rudeness, harshness, or incompetence. However, they will very subtly sense these qualities in the environment and other people when the planet’s principle is activated. At the second or third level of square processing, the person may feel as if they are surrounded by external and internal enemies of the planetary principle, whose goal—sometimes in a crude form—is to prevent the principle from manifesting. For example, in the case of a Sun–Moon square, the person may involuntarily make rude mistakes and tactless remarks when interacting with women, possibly even secretly fearing and disliking them, while simultaneously feeling a strong pull toward them, since their inner image of the mother-woman will be significantly distorted and active. If the Sun is in Aries, aggression and sharpness may arise; if in Pisces, false positions and misguided initiatives with unpleasant consequences may follow, and so on.

The square demands impersonal attention to what is happening in the spheres of the planet; external initiative is only permitted when forced by circumstances, and even then in minimal measure, as it usually leads to disharmonious outcomes. From the perspective of inner development, this aspect is highly promising for acquiring (in the planet’s sphere of influence) true power over oneself and transitioning to service of a higher egregore, which signifies a more creative and internally free life. With good energy, one can attempt to master the disharmonious external will and redirect it past oneself toward others—an aspect of black teachers, especially with a pronounced Sun square to higher planets. Working through this aspect grants the ability to act subtly, following barely perceptible instructions from a higher egregore, weaving the finest threads of karma that may pertain to distant futures.

Venus square: Human relationships are rarely truly human. The Venus square creates difficulties for the person in the areas governed by the planet, particularly in social contacts, where they often encounter rudeness, poor mutual understanding, and inadequacy in their own behavior within society. The person is drawn to people in these spheres, craving love tinged with the planet’s principle (e.g., Jupiter—luxury), understanding, and deep involvement in social life. Yet at the same time, they are capricious, intolerant, fail to understand much, and—most importantly—do not feel genuine connection in communication with others. Relationships often end in bitter disappointment. Generally, karmic programs symbolized by the square often begin quite favorably and even promisingly, resembling a trine, but once the person engages emotionally, mentally, and existentially, they begin to feel resistance, burden, and the necessity of hard work.

Even the Sun–Mars square may begin its manifestation as a harsh blow of fate, disguised as an attractive adventure, just as Venus squares often start with bright joys and emotional attachments. The most unfortunate (later) love still begins with luminous moments, which—even without the Venus square—should be approached with great caution and attention.

At a low level, the Venus square fosters disharmonious social egoism and, simultaneously, self-sacrifice. In other words, if a person has weak energy, society does not love them and, when the active planet is involved, delivers them into suffering without relief. If, however, the person possesses sufficient strength, they themselves twist the lives of those around them, clumsily and crudely attempting to exploit them for selfish purposes—causing others distress while gaining no lasting benefit (beyond fleeting moments followed by disappointment).

In the areas governed by the planet, the person will develop very peculiar and rigid aesthetic preferences (sometimes crude), which are difficult to please. At a low level, this manifests as capriciousness; at a high level, it results in an original creative style in art. The Venus square generally creates significant obstacles on the path to art (though also a strong need for it), including poor teachers or strained relationships with them. If the person succeeds, they will grow primarily through inner effort and self-education, always sensing their own path, and never finding true art (just as the Mercury square leaves unshakable doubts: “Are my thoughts truly intelligent?” even when universally recognized)—which, though unpleasant, prevents the person from settling for mediocrity, a trait characteristic of the square.
